New York Shitty Day Ender: A New Cafe On Franklin?

105 franklin

Yes folks, if this notice for a liquor license hearing (which has long since come to pass) in the window is any indication we’re slated to get another eatery at 105 Franklin Street. I researched the applicant, VPC Projects LLC, and all I could find is this restaurant bar will be called Veronica. Anyone have the 411 about this place? If so, please share via comments. Thanks!

Miss Heather

UPDATE, 12/20/2009: It has been brought to my attention that this establishment will, in fact, be a bar and the people behind it operate a watering hole in Manhattan called “Heathers” (see comments). This begs the question as to when and where they will open a third venue called “Jason Dean”. I won’t even go into the drink specials

I can only hope one of their cocktails will be “a Norwegian in the boiler room”— because I am not drinking anything blue coming from “Veronica”.

I’m curious about those repeated brick in-fill areas on the building fronts. Were these once storefronts, or what?

  • Yes, these were once commercial storefronts. They were converted to residential and many now are reverting back to commercial space. My feelings about this are mixed. There’s a dearth of affordable apartments in this neighborhood already.

Don’t know why they’re calling it a neighborhood cafe. The owners have a place in Manhattan and pride themselves on offering gluten free beer which is nice but… we’re talking alcohol here.

I don’t know where the line is between “cafe” and “bar” but I don’t think they’re planning to offer food, so that makes it a bar, for me. Right across the street from Shayz Lounge (bar), a corner away from Pencil Factory (bar) and whatever the former Lost and Found is now called (still a bar). Not the swellest thing.

Now I remember. The owners of this pending establishment are the people who own/run Heathers, in Manhattan. BAR.

I noticed that the liquor license hearing was posted after that hearing date. Very sneaky!

  • i was going to say, is this a cafe or a bar? that stretch of franklin has enough bars, thankyouverymuch.
