Remember Ving? If you don’t the following passage might refresh your memory. On June 2, 2009 I wrote:

…Someone, for reasons only known to him, saw fit to shave him: ear hair, whiskers and all.

We eventually drifted onto the subject of what to name this handsome chap. Lisa suggested that since he has been shorn we name him after a famous bald person. I immediately thought of Ving Rhames, as just like in the movie Pulp Fiction this little guy has had an encounter with someone he would just as well forget (WARNING: previous link is very NSFW) and quite frankly, whoever that person is, I too would very much like to go medieval on his ass.

Well, he is a she. Ving is Grace, she’s recovered (under Lisacat’s care) and is downright GORGEOUS!

Grace (and a few of her friends) will be holding court at Muddy Paws today starting at 2:00 p.m. She’s been spayed, vaccinated and is feline Leukemia and FIV free.  All she needs is a home— maybe yours?

THIS WEEKEND: Empty Cages Collective Two Day Adopt-a-thon

ECC92609

Yet another contender in this jam-packed weekend has come to my attention: Empty Cages Collective will be having a two day adopt-a-thon at St. Francis School stating tomorrow, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. Even if you are not in the position to adopt a pet why not swing by, say hi and give these adoptable cuties a belly rub or two?

Hi Miss Heather, If you have a chance, can you post this for my friends Veronica & Lori?

Thanks!

I will gladly give this event a shout out. Not only does the Beaner Bar serve up some incredible tamales (which I have previously featured on this site) but their Mexican style hot chocolate is the perfect companion for this crisp fall weather. Among the goodies offered at this, their first year anniversary celebration, are:

  • Special tamale plates
  • Coffee specials
  • Gift bags
  • Mariachi music
  • And much more!

Check it out— and if you have yet to try their fabulous tamales by all means do so. You will not regret it!

Snapshots From East Williamsburg

When the weather is amenable I like to stroll around the more industrialized parts of Williamsburg. I find the heterogeneous character of this area fascinating. You have houses that are very, very old nestled among much newer neighbors. Warehouses mostly. I find something strangely beautiful about this. Follows are a few selections from my latest jaunt. Enjoy!

TODAY: Adoptable Cuties At Muddy Paws

The Bountys are a quintet of winsome tabbies that were rescued with the help of crew members from the Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler vehicle being filmed in our ‘hood.

Toytime

Three have been adopted. Two await good homes— maybe yours? First up: Bounty

Why this Greenpoint girlie hasn’t been adopted is beyond me. Bounty is adorable and packs a pint-sized punch!

Milo is more pensive— as you can see in the above photograph by Lisacat.

These two Greenpoint cuties (and a few of their feline friends) will be available for adoption today at Muddy Paws. Check it out!

mailbox

Although I am somewhat reluctant to call this “street art” I suspect that was the creator’s intent so I am going to roll with it.

Speaking as someone who has a friend who was given a thorough dressing down by a mail delivery woman for having Power Puff Girl stickers on her mailbox* I have little doubt our friends at the Postal Service will be very happy about this.

Who says it isn’t a time for troubled youth?

Miss Heather

*She didn’t. The mailbox in question belonged to a neighbor. When made aware of this the delivery woman continued her diatribe undeterred.
