Happy Mother’s Day From New York Shitty!

Okay.

I am not now a mother nor do I ever care to become one. Whatever genetic predilection towards child-bearing I was to receive at birth I never got. While some women fret over their under-sized breasts and see fit to “augment” them, I rejoice having AA cups because they do not interfere with my use of power tools. I was supposed to be a woman. Instead I became a cat lady.

Which brings me to today’s Mother’s Day post. It is about a kitten named Rozza.

Lisacat writes on May 7, 2010:

Rozza was rescued in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. A woman was walking a friend’s dog and noticed the dog was carrying something in his mouth. She thought it was a rat, but it turned out to be a tiny kitten less than a week old. His eyes were still closed and he was listless and filthy. The woman rushed him to the vet who told her to get a bottle and formula and try to feed him. When she went to Muddy Paws for supplies, Robin referred her to me. I took him in and have cleaned him up, removing the fly eggs from two wounds that could be bites, but more likely some other kind of injury. Note that the vet did nothing to clean him or even notice the open wounds! Rozza is in bad shape, not nursing and very weak. He is taking formula a drop at a time. I’m flushing the holes and giving him fluids and antibiotics.

Yesterday Rozza was nursing with gusto!

With a little encouragement from Ma Gandolf— the dog!

Drunk on formula and love.

Sleeping.

Mothers come in all stripes. Occasionally they come with whiskers and tails.

Happy Mother’s Day!

P.S.: This chap’s rendition of “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin was far superior. The Mister had to deter me from offering him $20.00 to sing “The Immigrant Song” or “Faeries Wear Boots”.

Spotted In Greenpoint: More Hate

Hi Miss Heather,

I hope you are well.
I recall you once did a story on this. I found that sticker again, on a stop sign at the corner of Calyer and Newel.
I alerted 311 and the police, but I still found it up there when I biked by there 5 hours later.

As I have written before, these stickers are produced and distributed by a recognized hate group. If you happen upon one please report it to the police. STAT. In closing, here’s another such sticker I found recently on Manhattan Avenue.

Disgusting.

Tomorrow, May 8, starting at 2:00 p.m. they will be throwing a fundraiser at Greenpoint’s very own Diamond Bar whose proceeds will go towards beautifying and maintaining the Kent Avenue and Franklin Street along Bushwick Inlet. Greenpoint Video Du Jour: Fire Truck Chorus

As some of you, dear readers, might know your truly has been under the weather of late. I do not know if it is a cold (anymore) or allergies. Frankly it doesn’t matter: it sucks. In any case today I mustered up the energy and moseyed over to Monitor Street and Norman Avenue. You see, I have been voicing concerns with the transportation chair of Community Board 1, Karen Nieves, about road/sidewalk maintenance and congestion in this general area. The purpose of today’s sojourn was to document conditions at this intersection and Monitor Street in general. I was not only successful in this endeavor* but I came away with a little “added value”: making the acquaintance of a fire truck siren mimicking dog. Yes, you have read me correctly. But don’t take my word for it: without further ado, here it is. NOTE: listen carefully towards the end. Enjoy!

After the conclusion of this performance I inquired of his person this pup’s name. “His name is Zeus” she replied “and he thinks he is a god”. As do I, Zeus, as do I…
