P.S.: To refresh everyone’s memory, last week I found this on the very same block.

New York Shitty Day Ender: Anyone Lose Some Pants?

Or want a pair— albeit somewhat worse for wear— but with a belt?

If so, head over to Review Avenue and get ’em!* Those Queens folks have all the fun. *sigh*

New York Shitty Day Ender: A Rather Nifty Urban Artifact

(Or: Much Milder)

Lest the Bed-Stuy heavy content on New York Shitty has not clued you in already, yours truly whiled away this beautiful day in Bedford Stuyvesant. I found the above advertisements at the intersection of Madison Street and Nostrand Avenue. While the subject matter might be objectionable to some, it was rather neat to see a vestige of the old New York!

Miss Heather

P.S.: This post goes out to the guys at the corner of Halsey Street and Nostrand Avenue. One of whom told me:

I like small white women walking around my neighborhood. It makes me feel safer.

A rather lively (and downright funny) discussion ensued. Follows is a synopsis:

  1. After laughing my ass off. Hard. I tell this chap I like him too.
  2. I also add that I like everybody.
  3. He said he liked me.
  4. His friend said he liked everyone as well.
  5. I wrapped up this tete a tete as follows: So, EVERYONE on this corner of Halsey and Nostrand likes EVERYONE!

After, of course, testifying that it has been my personal experience that white women— especially those of the “small” variety— are among the most formidable people I have ever met.

CASE IN POINT: My grandmother who clocked in at a whopping 4′ 9″ in height. I have yet to meet a more terrifying person than her in this mortal coil. The fact her name was Daisy is pure gravy. My new friends found this tremendously entertaining.

I do not know what to call this repurposed piece of metal— but here it is anyway. If you want to make this item your own head to 700 Lorimer Street.

P.S.: What is this? Thoughts, anyone?

New York Shitty Day Ender: Change

It’s been a long time since I have featured what I like to call “urban artifacts” on New York Shitty. Well, you can thank the Mister for spying this bevy of goodness (which can be found outside the restaurant formerly known as Rhong Tiam). I like to call it the 2011 East Village Survival Kit!*

And it even comes with a little motivational material!

Miss Heather

P.S.: This delightful missive can be found around the corner.

*But is equally applicable in the Lower East Side, Williamsburg, East Williamsburg or Greenpoint. To name a few.

This melange of Greenpoint goodness (which appears to include the tail pipe from an automobile) can be found just a hop-skip from Pio Pio Riko. Anyone have the story on this? My curiosity is killing me!

Jason (who forwarded me the above find) writes:

Hi Heather,

First of all, I love your blog! I have been a proud resident of the Garden Spot for 15 years, and I have come to count on you for news on our illustrious nabe…especially restaurant news. Anyway, this little (creepy, but I think most dolls are creepy) beauty was on Norman Ave near McGuinness last Friday the 12th of March. Dunno if you want to post them but here you go.

Hope you’re well, and enjoying our incipient spring weather!

Thanks for the kind words, Jason! They are greatly appreciated as is your find. And on that note I am off to enjoy this lovely day (and perhaps grab an ice cream cone). More later.

LAST GASP: Great Moments In (anti)Viral Marketing

This afternoon yours truly spent the afternoon tidying Chez Shitty. As always it was a journey of discovery. It was under a pile of books I found the following item: one of the many treasures I have gleaned from the junk shop over the years.

This may look like an ordinary book of matches (that’s what I thought). I can assure you this is not the case.

And now the reveal.

Naturally I had to learn more about Elegant Limo Service. Alas, their web site is no longer with us. But I did find a curious inquiry on Yahoo Answers:

Me and my sister are throwing a surprise birthday party for our Mother’s 50th birthday.. We would like for a limo to pick her up from her work to bring her to the surprise party. She is very special to us and want to go all out.

I wonder how it went? I suppose we’ll never know. To close on a related note here’s another choice find from the junk shop.

Kicking it old school style in grandma’s parlor! Is that a bottle of Schlitz I spy in this impish lass’s hand?

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Lose Something?

This mystery item comes courtesy of my buddy down south, Flatbush Gardener. He writes:

Today’s thaw revealed a lost treasure in a snow bank on Marlborough Road. Blog Widow and I were on the way to the subway to enjoy the day when we stumbled across (something). As I was taking the photos, a car pulled up to the light alongside us.
There were two passengers: the woman driving (WD) and a man I took to
be her father riding shotgun (FS):

WD (yelling across FS to me through the open car window): Did you get a good shot?
Me: Yes!
WD: It’s a turd, isn’t it?
Me: Um, no, it’s not.
WD: It’s a turd.
FS: It’s not a turd.
Me: No, but it’s the same vicinity.

For the reveal click here. Go ahead. You will not be disappointed!

I want to take a moment to thank Flatbush Gardener for bringing this lovely find to my attention. Believe it or not, it brings back a very fond memory for yours truly. You see, a long time ago I lived not too far from where this chap calls home. One summer day I was walking to McDonald Avenue and I found a most curious item: a brass picture frame with a couple of Polaroids in it. These were affixed to a rather greasy-looking piece of cardboard. I quickly deduced the “subject” of said photos had at one time accompanied them. It was nowhere to be found. That’s when I came to the realization Prospect Park South was way more hoppin’ than I ever imagined.
