Hello, Miss Heather –

Last month you kindly posted about a wine tasting held at the Greenpoint Shul. We’re having another event and were wondering if you would be willing to post again.

It’s a Moroccan Shabbat with a North-African-themed Kabbalat Shabbat followed by a Moroccan dinner including arak (a liquor) and wine, with a special guest who will share a few brief words. It will take place on Friday, January 7th @ 7:00 p.m. at the Greenpoint Shul (108 Noble St.) and is $13.00 per a person…

If you could post this, we’d greatly appreciate it.

Please come if you can.

Thank you.

Duly posted! I for one think this is really great way to reach out to our Jewish community and beyond. Above all, you should meet the Rabbi. He’s a very nice guy! Check it out:

P.S.: This post goes out to Shawn of North Brooklyn Cats. An organization which has rescued a lot of furkids in need. Today is her birthday.

It’s been a long time— too long, if you ask me— since I have shared some Greenpoint goodness from the days of old. Today, I not only had the time but managed to parse a real gem from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle archives. It dates from January 8, 1900 and involves a member of the local constabulary receiving a very special bit of holiday cheer— if that is what one can call the decapitated head of a duck. Among other things. Enjoy!

New York Shitty Street Seating Du Jour: Street Sleeper

When I stumbled upon this ad hoc sofa/sleeper at the intersection of Norman Avenue and Humboldt Street I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. Then I glance to left and in so doing began the fully grasp the Greenpoint glory in front of me.

The person(s) responsible for this street sleeper didn’t just stick a mattress in an empty sofa bed: they first divested the sofa bed of its contents and then proceeded to stuff the mattress inside of it. Brilliant, simply brilliant!

Daily Bloomblight: Happy New Year From 98 Clay Street!

This vision comes courtesy of 98 Clay Street (AKA: 141 Dupont Street) which as many of you recall has been problematic for a very, very long time. Aside from the occasional Stop Work Order this “property” sports a dubious achievement which places it six feet below its peers: a man was found dead here in 2009. In any case, if what I saw this morning is any indication of what 98 Clay Street has in store for 2011 I’d say we’re in for a very exciting year!
