I do not appreciate people “aggregating” my work into their “for profit” web sites. Hence why I have yanked this post. You can see the new version here.

  4. The staff *are* really nice, aren’t they? The menu looks really good. I was told by one waitress on their grand opening that they will be serving a bar menu up until 1am. Nice!

  6. My wife and I might have stayed for the entree tonight if not for the toddler and five-year-old who screamed, cried and ran around our table, with the indulgence of their inconsiderate parents and the tacit approval of the owner/manager(?). I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect some parental restraint at 8 p.m. but then it’s been quite some time since I’ve been to a Chuck E. Cheese, which appears to be the ambiance River Barrel is striving for. The only bright spot, aside from the tasty shrimp tempura appetizer, was our understanding and attentive waitress, who didn’t blink an eye when we cancelled our dinners.

  8. This restaurant has potential. I showed up on Day #2 and enjoyed some brunch – fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and perfectly poached eggs. Two things confuse the otherwise awesome aesthetic; the Bennigans-style awnings need to go, and there needs to be something to obscure those massive, squeaky clean windows and the ugly light that pours in. “River Barrel” makes me want to crawl into, well, a barrel with horizontal pine panelling, which they happen to have. The food is a tad overpriced, just nudging its way up there beyond 68 and Paloma. If it eventually becomes better than those two restaurants, perhaps I’ll shell out, and this place will become a Sunday regular.
