Dear Miss Heather,

Although I currently reside in Florida (suckfest), I’m a huge fan and avid reader of your blog…

Although I could toot your horn all day, I’ll be honest and tell you I have an ulterior motive: my boyfriend (ex? current? we haven’t quite decided) recently linked up with his friends from Williamsburg.  These boys are the current owners of Vinnie’s Pizza on Bedford Ave, known largely for their great selection of Vegan/Vegetarian specialty pies and their “T.HANKS” trash can featured on an array of blogs in recent months.  AAAAnyshit, I was hoping to anonymously alert you and your readers to their new location, opening right in Greenpoint at Nassau and Kingsland.

I’m not entirely sure when they’re set to open, but from the sound of it the date should fall well before the new year. I don’t know if this is necessarily of any interest to you but figured it was worth a try to help out a friend.  Thanks so much and keep of the great work – I always look forward to new posts!

    2. If my memory serves correctly, that location was already a pizza parlor so it shouldn’t take them that much time to “convert” it.

    3. they have a sign about it up in the store. “ask us about Vinnie’s 2”. my oscar was there last week and asked, and they gave him the address, but he didn’t think to ask when they were going to open!

    i’m so excited about this. i live just on the other side of mcgolrick, and vinnie’s 1 won’t deliver past mcguinness. this greenpoint (as opposed to ‘other greenpoint’) is getting so vegan friendly so fast. i mean, there was always chinese food and mexican but there there are vegan baked goods and non-dairy cheeses and boneshakers only opened a year ago and now we’ll have 3 places with specifically vegan food in the neighborhood.

    4. “the other Greenpoint”: I honestly didn’t know how to describe the intersection in question so I went with “McGolrick Heights”. No insult was intended. Besides, we all live in “Williamsburg Heights” anyway so it doesn’t matter. 😉

    I’ll definitely check this place out when it opens. Albeit grabbing a slice with real cheese (which I enjoy tremendously— in small doses).

    That said, I was very disappointed that Boneshakers removed the “Makeout Party Sandwich” from their menu. It was totally worth the acid reflux and the “Kevin Bacon” just doesn’t do it for me.

    5. I wandered in the original joint on Friday to get a slice, asked them about the Vinnies 2.0 sign. I asked Nunzio if he’s moving over to Kingsland so he doesn’t have to walk so far to go to work and neither do I to get a decent slice since I moved from N.9th to “McGolrick Heights” last year.

    Yes, the migration is starting.

    Wonder if they’ll make an oil spill slice, cheese slice with soy sauce instead of tomatoe sauce?

    6. If Greenpoint gets a Vinnies, Williamsburg should get a Peter Pan. It’s only fair.

    7. I love Vinnies and happy they are getting a second location, though I will probably still just go to the one on bedford. That being said, maybe this will lead to a third location in the clinton hill area (park slope has vegan pizza so for ‘vegan neighborhoods’ that just really leaves fort greene/clinton hill…and we’re waiting…)

    8. oh no, i wasn’t insulted. i meant i call the franklin street area ‘other greenpoint’, and the mcgolrick park area ‘this greenpoint’ (cause that’s where i am!). i like mcgolrick heights. fancy.

    9. no sooner do I move from ‘this Greenpoint’ to ‘that Greenpoint’, than the shop that was a crappy pizza place 4 years ago, then what seemed to be a cover operation about a year or so ago (and also a terrible restaurant), is now going to be the good pizza place that the neighborhood needs… I hope they do well there.

    10. Sorry the place didn’t live up to your standards, Lylet, but that place satisfied my family’s fix for Italian grub for years. It’s not fancy but it did the trick.

    11. vinnie’s had different owners 4 years ago. and some of the neighborhoods best restaurants are cover operations.

    what a weird thing to be annoyed about. i mean, baldo’s and nina’s are good pizza places, but they do not offer vegan cheese, so i don’t get excited about them. (nina’s has great bread though, and the penne arrabiata that’s no longer on the menu in the fancy always empty back restaurant was also fantastic.)
