I have a couple of very exciting developments to pass along to my fellow Greenpoint gourmands. First up, a restaurant is in the works at the intersection of Humboldt and Richardson Street.

Frankie’s

Frankie’s will be open only for breakfast and lunch (READ: they will not be serving that unspeakable other meal). When I asked the man working there as to when they would open he said:

As soon as god sees fit to let us. We’re waiting on our licenses from the city.

Good luck!

Next up, anyone who knows Amin and Salid (the co-proprietors of Greenpoint Grocery, home of Baltica lager) can attest to how utterly mouth-wateringly delicious the food they make is. After a few years of mulling the idea over, they are going to start selling their delicious wares to the public this upcoming Saturday, February 9th. I for one think a falafel stand would be an outstanding addition to the neighborhood. Check it out!

Moore Street Market, interior

Last up, I would like to pass along a little intelligence about Moore Street Market I received from a commenter called Ando:

The market shouldn’t be going anywhere. Our congresswoman Nydia Velazquez earmarked $235,000 towards restoring the market with Project for Public Spaces.

Now the big question is what are the actual hours of the darn place?

Firstly, I think we should all thank Ms. Velazquez for securing the funds to restore this vibrant and much-needed asset to the community. Secondly, I am pleased to announce that I finally have the answer to Ando’s question:

Moore Street Market (AKA “La Marqueta”)
110 Moore Street
Brooklyn, New York 11206
Hours: Monday – Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Ingredients

Last night I made dinner using ingredients from La Marqueta.

Tostada

The results were incredible. I kid you not, Mr. Heather licked his plate.

  4. I highly regret to report to you the Greenpoint Grocery on Manhattan Avenue has been the single most horrifying experience that I have had in 4 years in Greenpoint. Yes, you ready for this? Maybe just ignore this and move on. ……………………………oh, you’re still with me, okay. Well, I went to the back of their store to use their ATM about a year ago. As I was punching the buttons to get $40 out, a giant cockroach fell from atop the money machine and landed on my finger. Being the grown man that I am, I immediately screamed like a little girl. My 2 twenties popped out of the machine and I warily closed in on the ATM. I made the terrible mistake of looking on top of the machine only to see about 50 more giant squirming angry cockroaches. I put my hand in my a plastic bag and grabbed my money. I was scared and I was disgusted, perhaps a little pissed. I went over to the lady behind the register and I said, “La Cucharacha, La Cucharacha” I went back to show her and again, I should not have done this, but I looked behind the ATM machine to see a large hole in the drywall which they must have used for an electrical source for the machine, to literally see a giant, nasty swarm of those god damn buggers. I shit you not, there were hundreds of them, on the machine, swarming over a pile of bananas and, fuck. I ran out of that place as fast as I could. Every single time I ride past that place on the 61 on my way to work, I still cannot void my gruesome memory of that place. Sorry, folks. If you’re wondering what their secret ingredient for their supposedly wonderful faire, this may be it. Of all places in Greenpoint, this is the one place that I will never, ever, ever go into today, unless their is some kind of $50,000 Fear Factor prize involved. Oh and the triple decker diner on Manhattan Ave, but that story is for the rats. Love, Tony
