New York Shitty Turns Four!

You know what they say:

Time flies when you’re having fun.

I can’t honestly say operating New York Shitty has been fun 100% of the time. It has on occasion entailed pulling all nighters, grabbing my camera, tossing on my coat and heading out when I would just as well stay home, etc. In short, it can and is hard work. But it is work I find rewarding nonetheless: if I can in some small way serve my community by operating this web site so be it. Besides, most of the time it IS fun.

I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my readers and the many folks who have sent me contributions over the years. They are greatly appreciated— even if I do not always use them. On that note I am going to share a nifty piece of New Yorkiana I found yesterday at the junk shop. Enjoy!

Thanks again— and here’s to another year!

  4. Miss H–

Your splendid work is sincerely appreciated here in the remote precincts, and everywhere, no doubt. Thanks for all you do, and look forward to many more years of NYSh!

  10. Happy Birthday to New York Shittay!

Over the years, I picked up numerous letters scrawled on notebook paper dumped on the G or L train floor. The best ones are from schoolkids usually at Hoyt-Schemerhorn. My favorite is between two 7th graders, one boy, one girl. The boy is trying to act all smooth and suave (but in a gawky 13 y/o desperate kid of way) to try to get the girl. The girl responds to each “c’mon baby, yo baby” in the way the only 13 y/o girls can do. Its a really funny read. One of these days I’ll find it in my archives again.
