New York Shitty Day Ender: From The Parks & Waterfront Subcommittee Meeting

As the above missives would indicate it was— and I am told still is— a very lively evening at the Swinging 60’s Seniors Center tonight. I did not stay for the whole affair (Sorry folks, but two hours of shouting and Ms. Thayer seemingly being unable to comprehend what nuance of the “discussion” was* is enough for yours truly. At least on six hours of sleep.) However, I did shoot footage of the first “half” and you can look forward to seeing it here, so check back!

In the meantime, here are a few teasers from before the meeting.

They were just getting warmed up, folks!

Miss Heather

*READ: Quality of life issues arising as a result of these concerts and questions about what the costs of said concerts are versus their benefits. Ms, Thayer seemed to have some problems comprehending this and extolled upon the manifold ways OSA contributes to the betterment of parks in north Brooklyn. Community Board 1 Parks Chair Camponegro put it best when he said:

She’s doing her OSA spiel again.

  2. What was amazing about Community Board 1 Parks chair Camponegro comment is she didn’t stop or responded just kept going through her “spiel.”

I wonder did she prepare for the meeting.

  4. She was like an automaton. This is kind of disturbing if you ask me given the nature of her job: she is expected to “think on her feet”.

  6. There’s a lot of things to complain about as far as the development and use of the waterfront space goes… but I’m not sure where this is coming from.
Those posters seem insanely alarmist as far as what’s actually happening with those shows on the waterfront.

I’ve walked over to those shows and they seem super mellow…

I can’t really see those crazy Belle and Sebastian fans walking over and shitting / puking in front of people’s homes… then dumping some condoms and tampons on people’s doorsteps… Although maybe I’m missing something…

I’ve lived in the area for about 14 years now and all that crap and litter has been there and used to be a lot worse as far as people dumping strange crap around that neighborhood. It would just sit there for months and months.

I think the photos on this website serve as documented proof of that.
It sounds crazy but if anything the area might even be cleaner after these shows.

Like I said I’m not for or against the shows but these arguments just don’t make sense.
    Anyway… Just my $0.02

  8. These posters are an indication of a much, MUCH larger problem. Reserve your judgment until you have heard what some of these people have to say. I should have it up by this evening. One vid is taking its sweet time uploading.

[…] last night’s CB1 Parks Committee was a bit of a doozy (Aaron Short went so I didn’t have to!). In an advisory vote, the committee recommended that […]
