Today’s installment hails from the intersection of Bedford and Manhattan Avenue. If you look carefully at the old photograph you will see the spirit of Shanghai Lee’s past.

And just as I stated in this post, if you look carefully at the facade of what is now Le Brique today you will still see a glimpse of Shanghai Lee’s future!*

  2. I moved on from Greenpoint nearly a quarter-century ago, and nowhere in the world have I found the equal of Shanghai Lee’s beef and chicken two colours/two flavours. In fact, I’ve never even seen it on a menu anywhere else (not even in the authentic Chinese restaurants in Chinatown at the time). It must have been peculiar to their chef. Oh, for a time machine to travel back for a dinner there!
