It’s been a long time since I have given these events a mention. Today I got a swift reminder in the way of the following little guy dwelling in my photo pool! While not quite ready for adoption yet, he will be at Muddy Paws on Sunday. To give you a taste of what you are in for, gentle readers, I present for your viewing pleasure the following video of “Stripey”. WARNING/CAVEAT: the following footage is incredibly, mind-numbingly cute!
As many of you are undoubtedly aware, yours truly is rather fond of cats. So you can imagine my delight when I spied these images on my friend orangegenius’s Flickr page. “Mighty” (as he is called) is three weeks old and was found alone in the courtyard of an apartment building in East New York. Orangegenius and the above lass, Stephanie, are taking turns bottle feeding him (which has to be done every three hours). Consequently, this little fellow has become quite the subway savvy New Yorker! Orangegenius opines:
Mighty is quite the straphanger. So far, he has ridden the L, G, E, F, M, Q, R, 4, 5 and 6 subway lines. He has also taken the B24, B43 and Q54 buses. He liked the M because we took him out of his shoebox and he got to look around and be fussed over.
I have been told that while not quite ready for adoption just yet Mr. Mighty will be at this weekend’s adoption event at Muddy Paws! Why not swing by and say “Hi”?
Hi Heather.. wanted to see if you can help us spread the word for our Dia De Los Muertos/2 yr. anniversary/City Harvest canned food drive. Its on Nov 1st. from 5 til 930. free beer. free tattoos* w/a purchase of a brewed to order coffee. (our sugar skull* must tip artist.) It should be fun. Maybe you can join us. If not maybe you can help us get the word out. Thanks any help is big help. We want to hit our goal of 200 lbs of food this year.
As it would happen I hit the Beaner Bar’s 1st Anniversary fiesta last year. It was a lot fun. I especially enjoyed the mariachi music. My tip for teetotalers: get their hot chocolate. It’s among the best to be had in Greenburg!
Miss Heather
Yesterday I swung by Muddy Paws to meet the latest batch of adoptable cuties North Brooklyn Cats has to offer. There were some real stunners. Including this beauty named Nora. This little lass found my pumpkin cake of particular interest— and I could not bring myself to deny her a taste. Enjoy!
While you’re making the acquaintance of some of north Brooklyn’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes (like the above the adoptable cuties) take time to savor some of the delicious vegan baked goods for sale. While you’re noshing you are benefiting a good cause! Lisacat writes:
To celebrate National Feral Cat Day, we’re having a special adoption event Saturday, October 16th from 2 to 6 pm! Yes, we’ll have our usual gang of charming and adorable cats and kittens available for adoption but we’ll also be having a vegan bake sale for the humans! Proceeds will benefit our favorite mobile spay/neuter clinic, The Toby Project!
To close on a (somewhat) related note, I have been noticing a lot of graffiti featuring feline subject matter hereabouts lately. Without further ado, here they are!
Nassau Avenue
Union Avenue
Could this be the start of a trend? I can only hope so. Cattitude!
Miss Heather
P.S.: I have also gotten word that Dog Habitat has a new feline in residence. Jay writes:
Had a surprise waiting at the door early one morning. A kitten in a basket. Dropped off some time before 6:30 a.m. Young and friendly. Grey with what could be a broken tail.
Naturally I intend to meet (and film) this little guy (or girl)— STAT!
Before I call it a day I want to pass along a couple of adoption events scheduled for tomorrow, March 28. Without further ado here they are in short order!
First up, Empty Cages Collective will be having an adoption event at NYC Pet starting at noon and running until 5:00 p.m.
P.S.: The above black and white ball of cuteness are five kittens, “The Manhattan Specials”, which were recently rescued from the Center for Animal Care and Control by Lisacat.
Starting tomorrow there will be a number of animal-related events in Williamsburg and beyond. Here they are in chronological order:
Tomorrow, March 5, 2010 starting at 10:00 p.m. New York City’s Animal Shelter Map, Trails to Tails will be unveiled on the steps of City Hall. A couple of north Brooklyn institutions will be present including BARC and our very own Assemblyman, the ubiquitous Joe Lentol! I have it on very good intelligence that these maps are pretty darned neat. If you have the time and/or ability to swing by, check it out! If nothing else, it will be an excellent opportunity to inquire of our fair Mayor as to why the Center for Animal Care & Control is so destitute they are soliciting donations for food.
Next up, North Brooklyn Cats will be having an adoption event at Muddy Paws Saturday, March 6 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Among the fetching felines to be featured are:
Noah…
and his sister Lilith
Wallaby…
and many, many more. In closing, I would like to point out that a good friend of mine recently adopted a rescue from this organization. His name is Bug (!) and you can see pictures of him enjoy his life of luxury (at least inasmuch as his big sis permits) by clicking here.
Last up, Greenpoint’s very own Empty Cages Collective will be having an adoption event this upcoming Sunday, March 7 starting at at 12:30 p.m. at PS9 Pet Supply. As some of you might recall these folks had an event last month at 8 of Swords Tattoo. I later learned they received no less than four adoption applications and a generous $100 donation from a New York Shitty reader. Me-OW!
Photo Credits: The lovely lass who graces the beginning of this post is named August. She holds court over yours truly’s favorite 99 Cent Store in the Garden Spot!
Today from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. some of my favorite north Brooklyn cat ladies will be having an adoption event at Williamspoint’s very own Muddy Paws. I have it on very good intelligence the lass you see to the left, Cristal, and her fellow bottle babies Dom and Taittinger will be among the cats and kittens wishing to make the acquaintance of someone (perhaps you?) who will give them a loving, lasting home. Lest you are wondering why this trio is named after champagne, I will tell you: they were rescued from a kill shelter on New Year’s Eve. Why not swing by and say “Hi”? Who knows, you might make a new feline friend— or two?
In closing, I will leave you with this footage of Cristal, Dom and Taittinger with their foster mom: a pup named “Spoto”. Be sure to listen for Dom’s ferocious growl at the very end. Too cute!
Needless to say when I received word from the head honcho of the Cooper Park Dog Run that the 2010 Dogs of Cooper Bark calendars are in I simply had to pass it along here. The purchasers of this delightful and very affordable product (they’re priced at a measly $15.00 a pop!) will not only have the some of Williamspoint’s most comely canines grace their wall for an entire year, they will also be supporting a wonderful cause: a portion of the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Cooper Park Dog Run! In years past these calendars have provided funding for such improvements as new fencing and furniture. Why not lend ‘em a hand (or would that be paw?) this year and purchase one of these calendars? They make great gifts!
