A chap named Dale (who took the above photo at North 7 Street & Bedford Avenue) writes at 12:54 a.m. in an email entitled “Traffic stopped at Bedford and North 7th”:

Don’t know what was going on.

Unfortunately, I do. Per an anonymous tipster:

On Friday March 23rd, 2012 at approximately 2200 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at the Bedford Avenue Train Station, within the confines of the 94th Precinct (Transit District 33). Upon arrival, Police determined that the victim (M/W/20) was riding the “L” line train along with the suspect (M/W/30-35) when a verbal dispute ensued. When exiting the train, the suspect initiated a physical altercation with victim resulting in both individuals falling onto the road track bed. The suspect fled the scene and the victim was struck by a Northbound train resulting in serious body trauma. EMS responded and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital where he was later pronounced DOA. There are no arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

The family has been notified and the victim has been identified

Gothamist has a very good run-down of what happened. You can read it by clicking here. (Thanks Peter for bringing this to my attention!)

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: DOA on Manhattan Avenue?

I arrived home from this evening’s Public Safety Committee meeting (which, it should be noted handles criminal matters) to find this item (which hails from NYScanner) in my inbox. I have reached out to the head of the 94th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Hurson, in the hope he can shed some light on what happened. It goes without saying that if/when I learn anything, I will post an update here.

UPDATE, March 2, 10:55 a.m.: I have received a clarification from D.I. Hurson! He writes:

I don’t see anything for Greenpoint and Manhattan ave, we did have a DOA last night inside of 1109 Manhattan Ave but we don’t believe it to be suspicious.

For those of you who are not in the know 1109 Manhattan Avenue is the Greenpoint Hotel (hence perhaps a transposition was made?). This is one of our community’s, um, notorious establishments.

An anonymous tipster writes in an email entitled “Kent Ave & North 4 St FDNY Harbor requesting ESU for a DOA body found in the water”:

I have contacted the head of the 94th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Hurson, in the hope he can verify this and perhaps tender a few details. In the meantime, if anyone has more information please shoot me an email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Your identity will remain anonymous if your so desire. Thanks— and YIKES!

UPDATE, 10:53 a.m.: I have received confirmation from D.I.Hurson. He writes:

You have great intel, yes dead body was found floating in the river. Appears to be a man we are waiting for the Medical Examiner to come and make a determination of the cause of death

This item comes from the NYPD via an anonymous tipster:

On October 10, 2011 at approx 1900 hours police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle accident at Meserole Avenue and Leonard Street in the confines of the 94 Pct. Upon arrival police determined that a scooter driven by a M/A/41 was traveling eastbound on Leonard Street and stopped at a stop sign when he was struck from behind by a 2002 Buick also traveling eastbound on Leonard. The operator of the scooter was taken to Bellevue where he was pronounced DOA. The driver of the Buick M/W/29 was taken into custody at the scene. Investigation ongoing

UPDATE: I have received confirmation from D.I. Hurson that the driver of the scooter did pass away and that the driver of the automobile was arrested for D.W.I. He hopes to give more details at tomorrow’s 94th Precinct Community Council meeting.

UPDATE, October 11: You can read more about what happened (among other things, apparently the victim was a deliveryman for Chinese Musician Restaurant) by pointing and clicking your way to Gothamist.
