From The New York Shitty Inbox: More Fun On McGuinness

While a couple of weeks old, I feel compelled to pass them along as this intersection (and McGuinness Boulevard in general) has long been problematic. The person who took these photographs writes:

Miss Heather,

Last week, I saw more evidence of what everybody knows — reckless drivers continue to make McGuinness Boulevard a dangerous and dysfunctional street.

From I can tell, on Tuesday (Jan 24), at least two drivers hit each others’ cars at the intersection of McGuinness Blvd and Huron St, sending one car spinning into Huron St, where it smashed into a parked car (pictured) and ended up facing backwards.  The other car ended up further up McGuinness in the direction of Green Street.  Car parts littered the street after the crash. As you can see, the crash had some serious force, leading me to believe that at least one of the cars was speeding.

Neighborhood kids often play on the corner, but thankfully nobody seemed to have been injured, though I don’t know about the drivers.

You can view images from another, much more disturbing, wreck at this very intersection which came to pass in 2009 by clicking here.

Not one, but two anonymous tipsters write:

…the gas station near Meserole Ave & McGuinness Blvd was robbed (last night).

do you know anything about the shooting last night at the gas station on McGuinness Blvd btw Meserole/ Cayler and the Key Food?

I have reached out the the head of the 94th, Deputy Inspector Hurson, and he has verified that unfortunately this has came to pass. Per Mr. Hurson an employee of this establishment was shot twice (but thankfully is expected to live) and they caught the perp on video. Some might recall there was another armed robbery at the Dunkin Donuts (also on McGuinness Boulevard) earlier this month. Yikes!

Update, 9:34 p.m.: I have just received word an arrest has been made for the Dunkin’ Donuts robbery!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: Another Robbery At Dunkin’ Donuts

This comes from New York’s Finest via an anonymous tipster:

The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the following individual wanted for a gun point robbery in the confines of the 94 precinct.

On Monday, January 16, 2012 at approx. 2120 hours, the suspect, a M/H/25-30 years old, entered Dunkin Donuts located at 356 McGuinness  Blvd, where he approached the counter person and displayed a black handgun and ordered the worker to open the cash register. The suspect then removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fled in a black auto with a grey or white hood. There were no injuries during this incident.

The suspect is described as a M/H/25-30 years old, approx. 5’9 – 5’10” tall and medium build.

Suspect was wearing a Yankees baseball hat, black sweatshirt, black vest, grey sweatpants and white sneakers

Anyone with information in regard to this incident or the identity of this suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-80-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

All calls are strictly confidential.

As some of you have undoubtedly noticed, the title of this post indicates that this is not the only robbery to have transpired at this establishment. The previous one, also an armed robbery, came to pass September 29, 2011.

New York Shitty Photos du Jour: The Pulaski Bridge

As taken today January 18th, 2012.

Since I am vaguely on the subject, I would like to take a moment to bring two pieces of legislation to everyone’s attention: the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act, better known as “SOPA” and “PIPA”. While I have little doubt most of you are already aware of what these are about, PC World has a rather balanced article on the subject which can be read here.

Speaking for myself— and New York Shitty being my web site I am going to take the liberty of tendering my two cents— I am against SOPA and PIPA. I, as many others, will readily concede online piracy is a problem. However, these pieces of legislation have— at least potentially— very serious ramifications. Ramifications which could endanger sites like this one.* I would also be remiss if I did not point out that some of the supporters of SOPA and PIPA are habitual plagiarizers of this site. I will leave it to your powers of deduction to determine about whom I am writing.

In any case if any of you, dear readers, agree with my take and want to add your voice to the opposition (which includes Internet notables such as Craigslist, Google and Wikipedia, among others) you can sign an online petition protesting SOPA and PIPA by clicking here. Thank you.

*Which today was cited by Mayoral candidate Tom Allon as: “…one of the great bulwarks against corruption and incompetence we have in this city.”
