New York Shitty Day Starter: A Walk On The Southside
Tuesday afternoon (before the sun decided to take another extended vacation) I finally got around to taking an extended walk on the Southside. There is much to be enjoyed in the way of architecture, gardens and street life or even art for that matter on South First through South 4th Streets. This area has something the Northside simply does not possess: a soul. Follows are some shots from my latest excursion to this fascinating neighborhood. Enjoy!
In closing those of you who happen to be in the area should swing by the public garden on South 2nd Street between Kent and Wythe Avenue. The people behind this sorely-needed bit of greenery did a smash-up job of this space last year and if what we saw in the previous slideshow is any indication I think they are going to top themselves this year. I am especially fond of the bird houses. Good stuff!

North Brooklyn Photo Du Jour: Southside Supper
Filed under: Williamsburg
When I encountered this spot of al fresco dining yesterday evening I knew it was too exquisite to pass up documenting it for all posterity here on New York Shitty. As you can see all the necessities have been provided: a bowl, spoon, eggs, a 24 ounce can of PBR (smashed— not unlike the person probably consumed it) and a “mystery bag” which is undoubtedly filled with culinary delights of a very exotic nature.
Interested gourmands take note: this table for one is located at South 4th Street and the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. Best to place your reservation far in advance. I have little doubt this newest entrant to the north Brooklyn restaurant scene will be harder to get into than Nobu soon enough. Perhaps it’ll even get a Michelin mention? In any case I give this phat spread four stars.

Best. Lost Dog. Flier. EVER.: Rodney Street

Not content with merely duping the elderly and naive into purchasing energy at inflated prices it would appear that IDT Energy is now embroiled in a case of dognapping.
…Person had a tattoo on his neck.
(Priceless)

P.S.: In all seriousness folks if you know anything about this most unusual situation please contact the dog’s rightful owner at the above telephone numbers. I do not know if either of the following fliers are related to the one gracing the beginning of this post— but to be on the safe side here they are.
This is the kind of stuff that breaks my heart. There is a special place in hell for the kind of people would steal pets for money. Jerks.
A Revue Of Williamsburg Pay Phones
It has been awhile since I indulged my fixation for maltreated public pay phones. Today I will usher in the weekend with a few new finds from Williamsburg.
South 4th Street
I am quickly learning that this is a pretty common example of pay phone abuse, e.g; the receiver is broken into two pieces. I like to call these “danglers”.
Union Avenue
The person responsible for this devious bit of pay phone chicanery has presented us with a poser. Those who are lucky enough to approach this pay phone from the north can quickly ascertain its lack of functionality. Everyone else is not so fortunate. Caveat emptor.
Metropolitan Avenue
I am fascinated by the number of pay phones whose receivers are simply ripped off. Are these collectible? Is there an underground community of public pay phone receiver fetishists in New York City? If so, I hope they use plenty of disinfectant.
Speaking of prophylaxis, be sure to pack a little protection before you give this person a ring. From your cell phone, of course.
