Meet Jake
It’s tough being young buck at an adoption event teeming with kittens. This was certainly the case yesterday for Jake at Empty Cages Collective’s first adoption event at The Beehive Salon.
How can a tough-looking 1 1/2 year old chap possibly compete with this?

It is a shame actually, because Jake is an exceptionally friendly guy. Unlike his fellow kittens who were a bit skittish having people look at them and pick them up, he took it all in stride. If any of you are looking to adopt a feline friend who has known life on the mean streets of Brooklyn and has a heart of gold, Jake is your man. Not only does he have a great temperament, but he sports some of the most beautiful orange eyes I have ever seen. Jake has been neutered, is up-to-date on his shots and is ready to come home with you today!

As someone who has a kitten turned cat, I would actually advise you ignore the cuteness of the kittens and focus on the older cats. The kittens will all get adopted by SOMEONE… the cats normally won’t, and your furniture, not to mention your sanity and sleep schedule, will thank you.
I agree. The beauty of getting an older (or in this case “teenage”) cat is you get a sense of his/her temperament immediately. That’s what got me about Jake. He was so mellow about everything that was going around him. Cool cat!
i have to agree. (now don’t get me wrong – i love kittens, i really do. that little black one in the post office box melts my heart). but one of my best pets is a senior cat whom i took in a year ago. Lola was 14, neglected but she is the sweetest thing ever. Tomorrow she’ll be 15 and I don’t regret the past year one bit. Older cats have a lot of love and affection to give, despite stiff joints and graying noses.
