  4. I had always assumed that Olek did the knitting somewhere else and brought the knitted item to the street. If it’s done “on site” then that’s neat, but I agree that the dirty-sweater factor of wool on the street for a long time is a bit skeevey.

  6. I think therein lies the rub: work of this nature has a “shelf life”. Shopping carts (or even bicycle baskets on abandoned bikes— and north Brooklyn has plenty of both) tend to end up being used as trash receptacles eventually. The goal with a work such as this should be to put something out there for people to enjoy (and I do)— not something that will be relegated to being trash can/liability.
