New York Shitty Day Starter: Stolen Stratocaster

I have lived in Greenpoint for ten years. While I consider this community (and Williamsburg) to be generally safe there are some things you, as a street smart citizen, should not do. For example: storing your 1968 Stratocaster in your car. Smash and grabs are not only common hereabouts, but the items stolen will boggle your imagination.

Nonetheless if you have seen Dan’s Strat or know of its whereabouts please contact him via the email address or phone number on the above flier. Thanks!

Miss Heather

  2. If it is not bolted to the floor, it will be stolen. And even if it IS bolted to the floor, you are taking your chances.

  4. I feel for this guy, I really do. But as the owner of a couple of 10 to 20 year old guitars of equal vintage, I have to say I would never, EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER leave any of them in a car alone for even 5 minutes. Never. I would not even leave my iphone in a car for 5 minutes. I mean come on. I really hope he gets this guitar back. What he should do is peruse ebay and every day and then go to every used guitar store in NYC (Guitar Center, Rivington Guitars, Ludlow Guitars, etc etc) and give them pictures and tell them to be on the look out for it.

  6. That’s pretty much how I feel about it, eaglestreeter. I feel for this guy. Really I do. But you do NOT leave anything of value in your car. One need only look at all the smashed window glass on the streets to known some people make it a cottage industry stealing stuff from parked cars.

  10. I’ve seen his fliers around the neighborhood. That’s really shitty. I hope he filed a police report, but I fear this guitar is long gone.

  12. Is this the same musical instrument theft that was reported in the Brooklyn Papers Police Blotter entry for the 94th pct

    “Musical theft
A perp broke into a car parked on Driggs Avenue, stealing several musical instruments.

The victim parked his car N. 10th Street on May 19 at 11 pm and returned two days later at 9:15 pm to find that the passenger-side window broken and his instruments missing.”
