Studio B: It Just Keeps Getting More Interesting

Yesterday evening I received a provocative email from a tipster. If its contents are to be trusted it would appear that Studio B has more than just an out-of-date Certificate of Occupancy and a Stop Work Order* to contend with:

…the fact that any PA (Public Assembly — Ed. Note.) over 300 people requires, by law, a fire protection plan to be approved by the DOB and the FD. They have not filed one.

Whoops.

I suspect New York’s Bravest will be less than pleased when they get wind of this.

I live directly behind Studio B and am not happy about what I’ve been reading regarding this roof garden situation. Does anyone have suggestions as to the most effective course of action for neighbors to take if the genius organizers over there decide to go ahead with the May 2nd party? Is calling 311 out only option? If I take photo graphs where do I send them?

ps: I swear I’m not just a grumpy neighbor looking to ruin everyone’s fun. The roof is literally 30 feet away from my bedroom.

What’s more, I’ll make sure they they come to the attention of all sorts of fun people and regulatory agencies.

Make sure those regulatory agencies know the extent to which Studio B has publicized the event in lieu of obtaining the proper permits.

I for one am appalled at the lack of attention being paid to this issue by the city; are we so quick to forget how deadly these nightclubs can be without adequate oversight?

Precisely, iandavid. Inasmuch as some would like to make this a matter of a bunch of old fuddy duddies grousing about “kids having fun”, the fact is this is about greed. Studio B’s greed, to be precise.

People have died because of “short cuts” like this.

I was starting to get the impression that the DOB and other authorities had effectively ceded regulatory jurisdiction over North Brooklyn music clubs to the Department of Health.

Which I’m totally fine with, if that’s what it takes. A little like getting Capone on taxes, but whatever.
