…long live the magic!

viridiankitprof

As many of you by now are well aware, the above masterpiece of Darthchitecture, Greenpoint’s very own Versailles, has declared bankruptcy. I could (re)hash the manifold ways this turd was a very, VERY bad idea from the start, talk about the many times I and a number of fellow citizens have called 311 on these fine people, point out the shoddiness of its construction or recall for you the many pleasant greetings (READ: catcalls) I have received from the fine men who built this testament to progress. But I have done all these things already— and more. Instead let us, fellow Greenpointers, look to the future! K writes:

Magic’s magic is ummmm… bankrupt!?

Not to wish ill, but let us be reasonable about the reality of where we live and what it can (should?) house.

Maybe they’ll make a skate park for the youth in the drained pool… and turn the sauna into a Public Russian (Polish) Bath House?

I for one think the Polish bathhouse idea has legs. For starters it’ll give the chaps who shave their backs on the steps of St. Anthony’s a place where they can get a little privacy while exercising some much-needed personal hygiene. What do you think should be done with the Viridian? Convert it into a casino? High-end brothel? A Walmart, perhaps? Leave your suggestions in the comments!

  2. I heard that 10 percent of the units sold. I like the idea of the rest of it turning into a squat, and then there being a DMZ in the center of the building, forming the no-man’s-land border between the squatters and the yuppies. Then in my sci-fi fever dreams it could get real cyberpunky and “Mad Max” in there, where subtribes of the squatters build a killing floor for debased rituals involving mutagens and cyberpiracy. All while the schmucks who moved in thinking their Lehman Bros. gravy train was never going to derail huddle behind barricades in the easternmost wing and try desperately to preserve their purebred yuppie genes by interbreeding, until in a couple of generations they’re just as debased as the other occupants. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you!

  4. Rob, I like the way you think.

By the way 10% of 130 units is 13.

  6. I think anyone who has either been displaced or had her quality of life infringed upon by the Magic Kingdom should be allowed to live there rent free for as long as she has been calling 311 (or contacting the DOB) to complain about it and its employees.

  8. Some ideas:
Rent/Sell it to Regal’s and make it a movie-plex, I could use going to the movies without having to go to Union Square.

Rent/Sell it to Google New York or some other big corporation that employs Brooklynites who’d appreciate a shorter commute. A lot of new geeks with money would help the local economy. It seems like they could use the space, only if we weren’t in a recession and they’d still would be hiring like crazy.

  10. Would you really want to inflict this poorly constructed turd on us, the afflicted? I’ve seen with my own eyes how poorly this curiously Walter Gropius-meets-Empire building was built. Somehow the Z-grade architects who design the crap in Brooklyn seem to think cheaply built buildings that look like dormitories for Imperial Stormtroopers are tasteful and hot. Clearly, they are not.

I wouldn’t recommend this dump to be a dog kennel. No disrespect to dogs. They deserve better.

Tell me what you're thinking...
