From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Fan of Fanaberie

fanaberie

I have a confession to make: I do not like to shop. Among other things I rarely have money to outlay on such niceties as handbags, jewelry, etc., and what’s more, after dealing with shoppers several days a week I care not to join their ranks. However, I have been hearing a lot of buzz about this establishment and feel compelled to pass some of it along here. Monika writes:

Dear Miss Heather,

I haven’t seen any mention in your blog of Fanaberie (102-A Nassau Avenue between Leonard and Eckford).  It’s a new clothing/accessories store run by a LOVELY Polish woman.  I know you are interested in supporting local businesses and I thought you might want to check it out.  I just bought a fabulous bracelet for 20 bucks (!!) and a few weeks ago, found the “wallet of my dreams” (modern style, big but not too big, and non-leather!) for $25.  I think this place will appeal to both the Polish and non-Polish community (if only they give it a look).  Anyhow, I was so inspired after my visit there today that I wrote a review for Yelp…FYI — http://www.yelp.com/biz/fanaberie-brooklyn

This is a ringing endorsement if I have ever read one. Methinks I will have to bite the bullet and check this place out!

  2. Just a little Greenpoint history — ever so little. This place used to be one of those dime-a-dozen clothing shops. There’s one by Manhattan Inn if memory serves correctly and one next to Jam’s Stationery. Perhaps three years ago it became a cabinet shop. Like the neighborhood was crying out for one. Then I see it became a clothing shop again. Glad to hear it’s worth a visit.
