Spotted On McGuinness Boulevard: Fed Up
Can I honestly say I am surprised by this sullen missive? No, I am not. This Greenpointers versus film crew situation has been brewing for some time. Does anyone reading this post have the scoop as to whom is behind this campaign? If so, please share via comments or email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Your identity will remain anonymous if you so desire. Thanks!

A New York Shitty PSA: North ‘Point B62 Riders, You’re F*cked!
SINKHOLE?!? Wow. In any case those of you who live on the northern fringe of the 11222 and wish to ride the B62 bus will have to schlep to Greenpoint Avenue now. Of course there’s always the G train to consider. I have to see this sinkhole for myself.
To be continued…?
UPDATE, 3:30 p.m.: So I walked down there. Sure enough, there was a notice posted at the Green Street stop that B62 service was suspended indefinitely. However, when I walked down to Freeman Street at McGuinness Boulevard nary a sinkhole was to be found— and vehicular traffic was humming along as usual.
Am I missing something (other than not quite mastering the video function of my newish digital camera)?

Once in a blue moon an item will get lost in the New York Shitty inbox. Actually, this happens a lot more than I care to admit but I digress. Given there are a number of small businesses (and entrepreneurs) in and around the Garden Spot I feel compelled to pass this item along. Slava from Assemblyman Joe Lentol’s office writes:
On May 26th Joe will be hosting and moderating a meeting that will have a panel of leaders including the heads of the NYC Economic Development Corporation, NYC Office of Small Business Services, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, East Williamsburg Valley Industrial Development Corporation and the Brooklyn Brewery. The event will be held in the community room of the Brooklyn Brewery at 79 North 11th St. at 9:30am-11:00am with a light breakfast provided. It is open to all small business owners and people who are interested in opening a new business and will be discussion based…
I have been told as of this morning there are still plenty of slots open! Interested attendees should give Slava a call at (518) 596-3293 and/or simply show up at 9:30 a.m.!

Greenpoint Photos du Jour: Jeszcze! Jeszcze! Jeszche!
The squirrels were were putting on quite a show yesterday at McGolrick Park. So much so a young girl in the care of (who I presume to be) her grandmother could not refrain from commenting about it. Which brings me to the title of this post. It was this word she kept gleefully shouting over and over: jesczche. I learned from her grandmother this means “around” in Polish. It is pronounced (more or less) how you say “milk” in Spanish: leche.

P.S.: Special thanks go out the my favorite employee at Stokrotka for assisting me with the spelling. She has become my unwitting (but enthusiastic) tutor when I purchase bath salts!

A Mr. (or Ms.) Santonas (who forwarded me the above flier) writes:
I am a huge fan of your blog. My friend is heart broken about her missing dog. Can you possibly post this on your blog? Thank you so much!
If anyone reading this has seen Ms. Banana or knows of her whereabouts please call the above-listed telephone number. In closing, yours truly would be very grateful to any and all who can help spread the word about Ana’s disappearance. Anyone familiar with the area where this lass was last seen will undoubtedly agree with me when I write that it is an incredibly unsafe place for a canine cutie to be at large. Thanks!

When I initially saw the above tableau this morning on Leonard Street I could not help but chuckle. Then I noticed this little fellow’s hands and feet were bound and became somewhat alarmed. Upon deducing the lady of the house was on the premises, I asked her what gives.
They’re taking him home.
She said smiling. Given the expression on this chap’s face I suspect a rather sinister fate awaits him.

I have no idea what the story is behind this paraphernalia (which yours truly found today on Greenpoint Avenue) — but I bet it is a good one! Thoughts anyone?
