MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Update On Nassau Avenue Construction Project
Given the rather acrimonious proceedings regarding this project in the past (lack of communication and the prospect of having one’s stoop lopped off tends to facilitate this kind of thing) I feel compelled to pass along that our inimitable Transportation Chair, Karen Nieves, has arranged a Town Hall Meeting with the Department of Design of Construction April 26, 2001 at St. Cecilia’s Church. At this meeting a presentation will be given apprising residents of any progress/changes made to said project (which as some of you recall now includes the city buying back the demapped strip of Monitor Street between Greenpoint Avenue and Nassau Avenue). Yours truly has little doubt this forum will prove to be no less provocative than its predecessor. Mark your calendars, folks!

Hi Miss Heather!
I was wondering if you have seen or know anything about this lovely origami crane installation in our hood @ McGolrick? My roommate and I have been admiring them for a couple weeks and we’re so curious who’s behind it!
If I had to hazard a guess I’d say that this is either the handiwork of NBPacArt or students at P.S. 110 (which is located across the street) If anyone reading this has the 411 about this rather nifty piece of public art please share via comments or email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. You should check out this car on McG near Norman. Parked next to PS 34 for weeks (wish I had taken a photo from late Feb for comparison). It has the usual dirt and grime from being parked on the Boulevard for an extended period PLUS our neighbors have seen fit to adorn it with:
1) contents of litter box. Note the clump factor
2) shriveled banana peel
3) remnants of at least two notes requesting removal. Possibly by the principal of the adjacent school?Besides occupying a prime parking spot in a neighborhood where parking is scarce this vehicle prevents the street from being cleaned (Sweeper operators have left a noticeable trail from repeatedly swerving around it), is an eyesore and, now, is beginning to stink. I’ve placed a call to 311 to report an abandoned car with NH plates. How long until it gets removed and what other items pile on top of it while it sits there are anyone’s guess.
WOW. Methinks I will have to pay this al fresco litter box a visit!
