New York Shitty Day Ender: Meet Franklin
Filed under: 11211, Stuff That Makes Miss Heather Happy, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
I kicked off today’s posts with this particularly fetching porker. So I suppose it is only fitting I end the day with him.
His name is Franklin and per his “person” (who contacted me via email) he was holding court at his place of work and play today. Sensing a good “scoop” when I know one, I headed over without delay.
He’s cute.
No, make that VERY cute!
This is by far the most charming and articulate gent I have met in Williamsburg (two-legged or otherwise) in a long, long time. But alas, while I felt we made a “connection”, we had a very difficult time communicating with each other. I am not fluent in “Swine”. I do, however, have some very good news to relay; I have been granted an exclusive interview with “Franklin”. To this end I will be creating a list of questions for him this evening which his person, Joe, will field to him and translate! This will come to pass soon.
To be continued…

Live From “Stand Up! Speak Out!” Part II: And The Rest…
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
As promised here is the remainder of my footage from last night’s event.
PART IX: Carlos Menchaca of Councilwoman Quinn’s office, a respresentative of Councilwoman Reyna’s office and Marianne of the Brooklyn Community Pride Center speaks
- Brooklyn, at long last, will be getting its very own Pride Center!
PART X: The Pastor of the Church of the Messiah and Rebecca White, a Representative of the Green Party, speaks
- Miss White brings up Right Rides. Those of you who do not know what this is should click here and find out!
PART XI: Community Board 1 member Tom Burrows outlines public forums where people can speak up, a citizen speaks
- Mr. Burrows offers yours truly the mike. I decline (Hey, I’m filming this!)— but suggest he outline what people should do if/when they lodge a complaint via 311
- 311 is for non-emergencies only
- It is noted by one very observant attendee that someone who assaults someone at 5:00 a.m. in the morning is probably not attending church. Thus sermons preaching tolerance will probably not be effective.
PART XII: A representative of Support New York speaks
It was at this point, gentle readers, I headed home. But not before making a recommendation to Mr. Burrows and Lincoln Restler: that a community group/list-serve be created (Yahoo? Facebook? Google+?) where businesses, citizens and our electeds can have a frank and open forum to discuss issues pertaining to the LBGTQ community and get to know each other— on their schedule. Thoughts, anyone?

Live From North 9 Street: Rage Against The Machine
Filed under: 11211, Culture War, The Natives Are Getting Restless, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
I have been asked by a number of people— including my own mother— if I felt the earthquake today. The answer is a resounding “No”. You see, gentle readers, I was on North 9 Street between Driggs Avenue and Roebling Street— which some might recall is the location of a rather substantial pile driver. Something very interesting was happening.
Naturally when I saw this chap standing in the corner the thought he was urinating and/or possibly masturbating immediately came to mind. I mean, this IS New York City after all. No sir, he had something to say to his new “neighbor”. NOTE: shortly after I shot the above footage this chap started screaming “Fuck you!”. While I doubt this changed the situation in any real, lasting way it probably felt good.

Filed under: 11211, 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
I am pleased to announce there was a full house at last night’s forum against anti-GBLTQ violence! Not only were a number of our elected officials and representatives from the Police Department present, but a great many concerned citizens from as far-flung locales as Park Slope! Some of these individuals had very powerful tales to tell, as you will see. In any case 9and without further ado) follows is the footage I shot. NOTE: I will be adding more later today so check back!
INTRODUCTION: Lincoln Restler and Tom Burrows introduce themselves and give a general run-down of the evening’s itinerary
PART II: State Assemblyman Joseph Lentol Speaks
Part III: Pastor Ann Kansfield of the Greenpoint Reformed Church Speaks
- Lincoln and Mr. Burrows give a nod to the other members of the clergy present
- Mr. Restler gives a general run-down of anti-GBLTQ incidences in north Brooklyn.
PART IV: A citizen named Dave gives a personal account of being attacked.
PART V: Chris, a friend of a man recently attacked, speaks.
- NOTE: the incident in question came to pass this last Saturday night/Sunday morning.
PART VI: Representatives from the Anti-Violence Project, Safe Horizons and the NYPD Speak
- LADIES NOTE: Project Envision is working on a project regarding street harassment!
PART VII: A Representative from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office Speaks
PART VIII: Rami Metal, Community Liaison from Councilman Steve Levin’s office, speaks
More to come… You can view the rest here!
