Greenpoint Photos Du Jour: Manhattan Avenue
This post is dedicated to Violetta Krzyzak and the loved ones she left behind. Any one of us could have found ourselves in her unfortunate shoes: being at the wrong place at the worst possible time. May she rest in peace.
Miss Heather
UPDATE, 2:45 p.m.: I have floated my idea of having a community meeting, memorial, “rap session”— whatever you want to call it (I do not wish to sound callous, I am simply at a loss for words)— about yesterday’s “incident” prior to next month’s 94th Precinct Community Council meeting to NAG and the Greenpoint Reformed Church and it appears to be a “go”. I will relay more details here as they become known.

Utmost sympathy to her family. The meeting/memorial sounds like a great idea.
When I learned she was a mother my heart broke. Even now (that I’m ostensibly “grown up”) I cannot imagine losing my mother in such a way. We Greenpointers, young and old, newbies and old timers— should grieve her loss because (I mentioned in this post) any one of us could have been her. More importantly I want to see something positive come out of this— be it as simple as bonding together as a community or as complex as prodding our local police department to forge better relations with the community it serves. Otherwise she will have died in vain. Thus adding further insult to injury.
I have not stopped thinking about this incident since I first learned of it and among the many things that race through my head, that’s one thing that keeps coming back to me: It could have been any of us. It could have been one of my own dear friends, or even me! She is my age too, which makes me run through scads more “What am I doing with my life?” thoughts. The bottom line is it shouldn’t have been anyone. I can’t possibly imagine how horrible this is for her family. My thoughts are with them in this most terrible time of grief and pain.
It’s been on my mind a lot since I heard too, Bitchcakes. I’m about to head up to the impromptu memorial, leave some flowers, and pay my respects.
Thanks for thinking of a gathering Heather, I agree with your sentiments.
This is all very tragic!! When I first heard about the incident it seemed so unreal….reality bites we have to unite as a community.
Tell me what you're thinking...
