Studio B: The Intrigue Continues

June 3, 2008 by

As some of you might remember, I wrote a post recently stating that Studio B is seeking the green light for a cabaret license from Community Board 1. Well, I have learned today that it is a helluva lot more interesting than that! I have it from a reliable source that not only is the Department of Consumer Affairs (not the Department of Buildings) responsible for issuing such permits, but Studio B has been operating without one for TWO YEARS!

More (undoubtedly) to come!

  2. Considering that they flaunted their permitless status for two years with their gross negligence for any type concern for their neighbors, one would think that Consumer Affairs would come down tough on them. Unfortunately, in a Brooklyn where hipster zombies run the streets and contribute to increasing tax assesments, Studio B will probably get a cabaret license.

  8. You got this totaly wrong. I’m Just a manager and not the owner I live in the area and I”m trying to help out . This is the first time I got to your webside and I’m glad . You have to get some of the facts right and I will gladly explain to you who is who or what is going on. Thank you for your time. Agnes

  12. Here are some facts that are right:
    1) Until any of us started complaining to the press, you as the manager of the club did nothing to mitigate the problems in the neighborhood.
    2) when the club is open, there is an increase in trash. you sweep in front of your club and that’s it. there are club fliers all over the block, in the street, across the street. you don’t put out trash cans in front of your club, and there’s one city trashcan on the corner of calyer, which is filled to overflowing on the weekends… from YOUR CLUB, because there’s nothing else going on over here.
    3) you allow patrons of the club to re-enter at will. i understand they can’t smoke inside, but most clubs have a ‘smoking pen’ in front of the club where smokers can congregate. They don’t allow people to sprawl up and down the block because it IMPACTS THE NEIGHBORHOOD. when you let people go in and out of the club at will all they do is sprawl down the block and onto our stoops.
    4) you can clearly see from the front door if people are hanging out up the block. have security move them along. have someone stand on the corner of calyer and meserole and direct them out of the neighborhood. when they see someone peeing against the wall across the street, someone should walk over there and tell them to stop. (do you not have enough bathrooms or something? i’ve never seen so many people peeing in public.)

What about what happened on the 4th of july? you lit off fireworks in the street. there were hundreds of people in the street and you didn’t disperse the crowd when you were done.

You don’t help and you don’t care EXCEPT for the fact that your club won;t make as much money. You don’t care what it does to the neighborhood. Right now you’re trying to handle the problem by not having events at the club.

btw, i notice that you finished the retractable roof. i thought the point of having it was that you would close it and minimize noise and stop the people from smoking out on the street. at least that’s the line of BS you’ve been feeding us.

the club doesn’t hvae a c of o for the second floor but yet there are people on the second floor constantly. there’s also an illegal apartment and there’s no residential zoning in that building.

we’re going to make sure that there’s a representative from every residential building in the neighborhood that your mr. fisher says “isn’t residential” at the hearing on the 31st. so you can have people blog here for you and post comments that are clearly written by a publicist as much as you want. you’ll keep doing what you want but boy will we do everything we can to hold you accountable.

  16. You are more than welcome to state your case via the comments, Agnes. I will read them. What’s more, I suspect a lot of people would be very curious to get your take on this situation.

  18. I’ve been pretty neutral about this whole thing because even though I live only a couple of blocks away I’m around a corner and don’t really see or hear what’s happening over there. I’ve even been to Studio B once with a friend, and we both had a good time. Might make it back again. But reading this response, her “take on this situation” seems pretty clear: “screw you ‘neighbors,’ I don’t have to answer to you, we’ll do what we want and don’t have to explain.”

Basically, that is, the online “take” is pretty much what the real-life one is.

  20. Had this business truly wanted to redress the problems at hand they would have approached the people who complained at the last CB 1 meeting and set a time/date to have a serious “sit down and talk session”. That would have diffused the situation tremendously. But they didn’t and so you have this.

If Agnes was to provide me something substantive in the way of an argument (other than what we have heard many times before) I would at least read it. She hasn’t and I doubt she will. That’s her prerogative and I am not going to push the matter. The Public Safety Committee meeting will be upon us soon enough.

I live in the neghborhood and I understand they concerns. I wasn’t aware of some of the permit issues the club had . I’m not the owner I just work there . I’m sorry for all the problems

  30. I have read your site, you have to be the most sexually frustrated person in the neighborhood. I have live here for around 20 years and I have never seen anyone BITCH as much as you. If I had to guess you have to be an over weight fat chick that has no life and wants others to be miserable like yourself. I also figure you don’t get out much either, and looking at your site when you do its to BITCH. If you don’t like the area or whats going on move back to where ever you came from because anyone reading your blogs damn well know you are not from new york and if you are you gotta be from the freaking suburbs. Do everyone a favor move out of the neighborhood, and if you can’t do that stick one of those Twinkies that you have been fattening yourself on in your mouth because that seems to be the only time anyone will be happy. Get out of your apartment lose some weight and maybe you might get a guy who will take you out in public which would be like a place like the Underground, Exit , Studio B hell maybe even to the zoo. In closing GET A LIFE and leave the neighborhood alone it was fine before you got there and it will be better off when you leave.

Tell me what you're thinking...
