This upcoming Sunday, June 29th the Beehive Salon will be hosting a very special group of glamour pusses; adoptable cats and kittens (including the inimitable Miss Squirrel, seen above) from Empty Cages Collective, a rescue organization recently started up by my good friend, animal lover and fellow Greenpointer, Lisacat.

The Beehive Salon
115 North 7th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11211

If you are thinking about adopting a cat or simply want to brighten the day of some kitties in search of a forever home, why not swing by between 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. and say hi?

  2. Unfortunately, there’s no way I could bring another cat here, as I am living with two formerly feral kitties who are now fat, happy and lazy.

However … you seem like someone who might know the answer to this question. When I come across a feral but approachable cat somewhere around the city (as I sometimes do), what should I do? If I am able to grab the cat (as I sometimes am), is there a place I can take them that would handle getting it spayed? I hate to just walk away …

  4. This is a VERY good question. Here’s what I am going to do: I am going to talk to Lisa of Empty Cages Collective and get her take. She has a ridiculous amount of experience to draw from and is much better qualified to answer your question than I am— although we now have a feline “visitor” I suspect we will trap, neuter and try to find a new home for!

The one piece of advice I can give you Anulla is the ASPCA does free/cheap spay and neutering from mobile veterinary facilities. I wrote a post about this back in April. Here it is:
