THIS WEEKEND: 150th Anniversary Celebration
I had mentioned this in passing some time ago, but now the weekend is finally approaching! This upcoming Saturday, October 20th, the folks of Brooklyn Diggers will be throwing a 150th anniversary celebration of the laying of the keel of the U.S.S. Monitor at our very own McGolrick Park. A pop-up museum, live music, “smell boxes” and “historical food” are among the many items in the offing. Best of all, it’s completely free! Check it out!

LAST GASP: Live From Meserole Avenue
Aaron (who forwarded me the above photograph) writes:
Saw a group gathered at the corner of Leonard and Meserole on the way home yesterday afternoon. Buddhist monks with bells and incense around flowers, etc. Didn’t know what it was about until I was catching up with my news feeds today and saw your post about the dwi accident.
Alan Lau was a deliveryman for Chinese Musician Restaurant. He called Elmhurst, Queens his home and is survived by his wife and their young children. A number of Greenpointers and Williamsburgers have stepped forward to start fundraising efforts (including— but not limited to— setting up a Kickstarter or ChipIn page) to cover his funeral expenses and otherwise provide financial assistance to his family in this, their time of need. When I get the details I will post them here.
Thank you, Aaron.
