From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Diamond Street Crime Prevention Tip
Filed under: 11222, Advanced Life Forms, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Stuff That Makes Miss Heather Happy
This site— and the north Brooklyn blogosphere in general— has been abuzz with much talk about crime lately. First there was the robbery/shooting at 93 Nassau Avenue. Then I received word of a botched robbery attempt on Montrose Avenue. Just this weekend I learned via the North Brooklyn Community Group a rash of car break-ins have come to pass around McGolrick Park.
What am I to do, you ask? Well, someone on Diamond Street has devised a rather novel (and inasmuch as I can ascertain: yet to be tested) approach to crime prevention in the Garden Spot.
I will let a lass named Nicole (who brought the above to my attention) tender an explanation:
So I stayed up way too late last night watching Twin Peaks, this morning in a stupor I’m going to get coffee at Brooklyn Standard and I look up to see this, a stuffed white wolf in someone’s window! It’s huge! And terrifying! It’s on Diamond between Nassau & Norman. And it wasn’t an Agent Cooper-induced hallucination! Also note the guard dog signs everywhere….
The pictures aren’t so great because I felt really weird about photographing the inside of someone’s apartment….
Observation: there’s a lot more to feel weird about here than merely photographing the interior of someone’s apartment. Genius. Pure genius. God bless you, Greenpoint!

LAST GASP: Upcoming Film Shoots In North Greenpoint
In my rush to round out the day’s posts I forgot to pass along these upcoming film shoots as approved by the august Mayor’s Office of Theatre Film and Broadcasting. Without further ado, here they are!
A film shoot will come to pass in our fair burgh August 2nd through August 4th. This will necessitate the removal of all cars on Greenpoint Avenue between Franklin Street and Leonard Street by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
In addition, “Girls”* will be clearing Manhattan Avenue between Green Street and India Street starting at 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3rd, for a film shoot the following day.
Am I the only person who finds this amount of overlapping “activity” in such a small geographic area a wee bit excessive?

*Which, as some of you might recall, is the same production company responsible for this.
New York Shitty Photo du Jour: 239 Banker Street
It would appear the mysterious resident (caretaker?) of 239 Banker Street has installed a second air conditioner.

A chap named Andrew (who brought the above vehicle to my attention) writes (in an email entitled I Know You’ve Seen The Limo):
…but have you seen the watercraft these guys are working on?
I have now. Great find, Andrew!

Greenpoint Photos du Jour: Nelson & His Ride
When I saw this great bicycle yesterday on Franklin Street I simply had to capture it and its owner, Nelson, for posterity.
After noting the two rather jaunty skulls, Nelson showed me a few other points of interest on his ride— and person!
This little fellow is his “son”. He glows in the dark.
Nelson hails from Isabela, Puerto Rico. You can learn more about Isabel by clicking here.
These are Nelson’s children: Nelson (Junior) and Isabel. I’ll give you three guesses after what the latter is named!
These are Nelson’s parents. he noted that his mother had died fairly recently but that his father is still alive. He is 74 years old!
Lest I have not written this before I will do so now: one of the joys of operating this site is the people I meet while knocking around the neighborhood. By posting their faces and sharing a little bit about these people I am endeavoring to put a “face” on my community: north Brooklyn. There are a number of fascinating people to be found here— and Nelson is certainly one of them. It was a pleasure meeting you!

New York Shitty Day Starter: An Update Regarding The Robbery At 93 Nassau Avenue
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
This morning I awakened to find an email from Deputy Inspector Hurson of the 94th Precinct. I am pleased to pass along that one of the men responsible for last week’s robbery/shooting has been apprehended! His name is Alex Lagoa and he was released five years ago after serving a twenty year sentence for murder. It should be noted he shot no less than two police officers while being arrested for the aforementioned crime. Yikes!
