Happy Puerto Rican Day From New York Shitty!
Okay. For over a week I have been fretting about how I would give a nod to my many Boriquen friends and neighbors in the Garden Spot. Then I met these guys on Manhattan Avenue yesterday afternoon.
I explained to the gentleman on the far right that I loved their bikes and wanted to take a picture of them to commemorate Puerto Rican Day on my web site. He, in turn, explained this to his colleagues.
They were all smiles.

I ran into one of my old friends tonight and while we were talking about our recent life events, some guy and his girl apparently were arguing in front of the AT&T store in the triangle of Bedford/Nassau/Lorimer. Some other guy on a bike decides to be righteously angry and cold cocks the guy in the face as he rode by. The guy who was punched got knocked cold and hit his head on the bike rack (those upside down U shaped pipe things bolted to the sidewalk that nobody uses) on the way down splitting the back of his head open. Lotsa blood and freaked the g/f out. We called 911, four 94th pc’s showed, FDNY, ambulance, etc. We split once the authorities showed

Sorry to bring yet another bike shit thing, but…
Hope the dude who got hit is ok, he looked pretty awful.

It’s been awhile since the I have revisited the matter of the deplorable state of McCarren Park’s “comfort stations“. This is in some part because I have been busy. But mostly it is because it grosses me out. Big time.
Soap scum on the soap holder.
Nothing new here.
The “Caution” tape has been removed.
Yet there still appears to be a problem.
But we have a spiffy new eco-friendly and awareness-raising hand drier!
I can only imagine what’s next. Educational bidets perhaps? I can only hope so. They’d be a fount of knowledge!

I featured a piece not unlike this one not too long ago. In my post I asserted the woman in question was Veronica Lake. A number of readers disagreed with my assessment and in light of more, um, information I agree with them. My educated guess is this is Janet Leigh. Thoughts, anyone?

Greenpoint Restaurant Watch: Bombay Garden Update
I have a confession to make: I have been casing this— Greenpoint’s first and only Indian restaurant— for weeks in the hope I would learn when they are going to open. Each and every time I have walked away disappointed. UNTIL TODAY!
I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that “2020” is a typo. Only one more week, folks! In the meantime you can peruse their menu by clicking here.

As some of you might recall the man behind Project Sunflower gave away free sunflowers last month. Well, I am pleased to announce he’s back and will be giving out more golden goodness tomorrow! Matt writes:
Project Sunflower is a non-profit organization that I have started with one goal in mind, to beautify all 5 boroughs. I hope to start achieving this goal by giving away sunflowers that will then in turn be planted by you wherever you feel needs a bit more color or on a plot of land that needs a bit of love. I’m a long-time reader, first time emailer. I’m an Astoria resident with a studio in the very southern part of LIC. So I frequently look across the water to Greenpoint. Late this afternoon, I shot a rainbow sprouting over the Shit Tits. (I apologize for not knowing the name of the sewage processing plant and relying on such crude slang.) It’s yours to use as you see fit… I’m also attaching a photo of tonight’s fantastic sunset. Just in case.
