New York Shitty Slide Show du Jour: 57 Franklin Is Ready For Easter!

After essentially casing this property for two weeks I am very pleased to announce that the Easter eggstravaganza is in effect at 57 Franklin Street! Not wanting to delay the completion of one of yours truly’s favorite holiday displays in the Garden Spot, I kept my conversation with the woman responsible for this short and sweet. However, I did learn a couple of interesting facts which I would like to share:

  1. She considers doing this very therapeutic.
  2. She has amassed approximately 500 eggs for this display because “people tend to steal them”.
  3. She then conceded she couldn’t really blame these folks: if she was a passerby she’d be tempted to take them too!

Hi Miss Heather,
I’ve been subscribing to your blog for quite a while – I think you do an excellent job, really enjoy your posts. I’m eating dinner at Lomzynianka tonight and wanted to walk by some xmas lights afterward. What’s your suggestion on a ‘greatest hits’ of holiday lights in Greenpoint? Thanks a lot and keep up the great work.
Thanks for the kind words, Jack! I assure you they are much appreciated! That said, here are my recommendations:
  1. 648 Humboldt Street
  2. 97 Russell Street
  3. 57 Franklin Street
  4. Oak Street (all of it)
  5. Huron Street has two great houses: one is between Manhattan and McGuinness, the other is between Manhattan and Franklin. Trust me, you’ll know them when you see them.
  6. Hausman Street just north of Meeker Avenue
  7. And of course, there’s the El Blablazo Community Christmas tree (which graces this post). This can be found on Manhattan Avenue between Eagle and Dupont Street.
Have a delicious dinner and enjoy the holiday extravaganza, Jack! Speaking for myself I will be taking it easy. I have a very ambitious Christmas dinner to prepare. Last night I made vegetable stock and tomatillo sauce. I am pleased to announce no one was hurt!

Tis The Season: 57 Franklin Street

Those of you who frequent Franklin Street have probably noticed this house. While not terribly remarkable (there are many like it in Greenpoint) the owners spare no time and expense on seasonal decor. Be it Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas, these people celebrate with style!

much more!

quintet

I love these little guys. And last, but hardly least, my personal favorite…

snowflakes

Hundreds of little snowflakes, jingle bells and icicles grace the trees! If you have the time and wherewithal to brave this downright brutal chill do swing by and see this festive display of holiday cheer in person. TIP: it’s even more impressive at night!

P.S.: On an unrelated note, today’s offerings will be decidedly lite. I have a lot of work to get caught up on before this busy pre-holiday weekend— including get a donation together for the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Holiday Flea Market!

Winding this dreary day down are a few images I took yesterday at the Garden Spot’s house for all seasons: 57 Franklin Street. The amount of work (not too mention money) this woman puts into decorating her house (which she does every holiday) is truly to be admired. I have a confession to make, though: although her Halloween decor never disappoints I prefer what she does for Easter!
