This items comes from via the New York Shitty inbox via one of the inimitable (and fabulous) boys of Alter. Roy writes:

Hey Miss Heather,

Hope you are well. I wanted to a share with you that this Friday, Sept 10th is Fashion’s Night Out. A global outreach to get people excited about shopping produced by Vogue, NYC and the CFDA. Most of the shops on Franklin St are participating and we all have collaborated on promoting the night. I have attached the flyer for it and would love to see if you are interested in featuring it on your site. Each store will have different events going on. Some will have DJ’s, free giveaways, complimentary drinks, discounts etc. (Alter will also be selling the official FNO tee shirt as well as having a photo studio in the shop to shoot all customers who attend and of course champagne) Its going to be fun night on Franklin St. There will be an after party at Veronica People’s Bar as well!

This is the second year for this event and last year was great for all the shops that participated. Only 4 last year, this year 10!

Duly blogged! Show your local indie businesses a little love this upcoming Friday and check this out!

Fashion’s Night Out

TOMORROW: Mister Market

This item has been brought to my attention by that dynamic duo, Tommy and Roy, better known as the Alter Boys. Tomorrow they, along with a number of other notable north Brooklyn businesses (like Kill Devil Hill!) will be selling their wares at the Mister Market. The whole shebang kicks off at noon. Why not swing by and see what they’re got cooking?

Mister Market
June 13, 2010 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Public Assembly
70 North 6 Street
Brooklyn, New York 11211

You can get more information about this event by checking out Mister Market’s web site.

In closing (and on a shameless self-promoting note) I’d like to remind everyone that the “closing reception” for my photography show at Creek & Cave is tomorrow starting at 3:30 p.m. You can get the full 411 by clicking here.

P.S.: Lest any of you are wondering why I put “closing reception” in quotation marks it is because I have gotten word that my show has been extended! And somehow “middling reception” does not strike me as being very snappy.

TOMORROW: Black Friday Sale At Dalaga & More!

November 26, 2009 ·

I don’t know about you but the last thing I want to do on “Black Friday” is go to Manhattan. I would not go so far as to I am anti-social. I’m not. I like people. I just don’t like being around so damned many of them feverishly fighting over discounted goods. I get enough of that on the job. What’s more, there is no need to go to Manhattan when there are so many great places to buy gifts right here in Greenpoint. CASE IN POINT:

I have the pleasure of calling co-proprietors of this business neighbors. They’re not only great folks but their offerings are quite lovely and reasonably priced. Check it out!

BLACK FRIDAY SALE
November 27, 2009; 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Dalaga
150 Franklin Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222

While you’re on Franklin be sure to pay a visit to the many wonderful businesses located there. To name a few: Tommy and Roy, my favorite Alter boys; Word Books, Pentatonic Music, Permanent Records and Kill Devil Hill. Be sure not to overlook Manhattan Avenue while you’re at it. Franklin Street does not great Greenpoint holiday shopping in its entirety make.

Do your part to help the Garden Spot’s indie/mom and pop businesses thrive: buy local this holiday season!

A Little Holiday Shopping

November 26, 2008 ·
Filed under: Bushwick, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg

After spending at least five hours in the kitchen yesterday and knowing full well I will be doing the same today suffice it to say yours truly is more than a little unmotivated. In any case follows are few upcoming holiday shopping events which might be of interest.

I have been long remiss in giving Tommy and Roy (AKA: the Alter boys) a shout out. Today I wish to correct this egregious oversight on my part by passing along the deets about their upcoming “Thanksgiving Weekend Sale”. And oh yeah, pointing out that I am totally in love with this item which I found on their web site. Check it out!

This item comes courtesy of Bitchcakes. Cafe Grumpy will be hosting another “Hearts & Crafts” affair this holiday season. Hopefully I’ll make it to this one. If the wares for sale are even a fraction as nifty as their flier I am certain I will NOT be disappointed!

But back to events I have attended in previous years.

I purchased some incredibly fun items last year’s holiday craft fair. I will probably do so again this year. Take my word for it: this event is worth schlepping over to 195 Morgan Avenue.

Last up, the Gift On Grand will be throwing another giftstravaganza at Secret Project Robot. My advice about this event: ARRIVE EARLY. It gets packed.
