THIS WEEKEND: Homemade Brooklyn & More

This item was brought to my attention by the immensely talented folks at Greenpoint’s very own Clay Space. Starting today they, along with a number of other Brooklyn artists and performers, will be strutting their stuff at Homemade: Brooklyn; “a weekend long pop-up event”. Sponsored by The Shiny Squirrel, free films, performances, workshops and music are also promised. Check it out!

In closing, it should be noted that this is part of Williamsburg Walks which commences tomorrow and runs through Sunday! You can get the full rundown about this year’s Williamsburg Walks (including a list of activities) by clicking here.

P.S.: I feel compelled to give people a warning/caveat about Metropolitan Green. Last weekend I attempted to patronize their facilities.

I checked the hours this “comfort station” was purported to be open. It looked encouraging enough. But alas it was not to be.

As of the time I visited (10:21 a.m.) It was locked. My advice: be prepared to contend with the “Comfort Station” at McCarren or do what I do. Take your “business” to the W.E. Sheridan Playground instead.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Upcoming Classes At Clayspace 1205

March 23, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic

I recently received a reminder from the folks at Clayspace that their spring class semester classes kick off April 5, 2010. These classes range from advanced to beginner; adults and children alike. The cost ($275.00) may very be out of the range of a great many people reading this (there is a recession going on after all) but it will buy you not only six weeks of coursework, but also twenty five pounds of clay and unlimited bench time. This comes out to $45 dollar a week. This is not a bad value when you think about it!

You can review Clayspace’s adult classes by clicking here and their activities for children can be found here. NOTE: their “Spring Break ” children’s program commences March 29!

THIS WEEK: Holiday Market at Clayspace & More!

I went to this event last year. I was not in the least bit disappointed! It was a most enjoyable evening. For this reason I strongly recommend— even if you cannot afford their wares (which are absolutely stunning)— that you go! You’ll meet some of the most talented (and downright nice) crafters and kiln cats in the Garden Spot!

Clayspace Holiday Market
Opening reception: Thursday, December 10, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Market Hours: Saturday, December 12, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

To close on a related note my photography show at t.b.d. is bravely marching forward. Last night I finalized my selections, burned ’em onto cds and today I will get them developed. Truth be told, it was damned difficult to pick and choose among the several thousand photographs I have taken over the years. It was downright frustrating. In any case, I think Greenpointers, Williamsburgers, and East ‘Burgers in particular will enjoy what I picked. These works will be for sale, priced to delight and move at $25.00 and up; and if all goes to plan a portion of the proceeds will go towards some of my favorite causes:

My Neighborhood (my working title for the show, the final one is t.b.d.)
“Soft opening”: Thursday, December 10, 2009 (exact time t.b.d.)
Closing reception: (t.b.d.)
Venue: t.b.d. (Really, that’s the name of the place!)
224 Franklin Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222

When the deets become firm I will post more details.
