Yes guys and dolls, this would appear to be the case. Can I honestly say I am surprised by this? In light of an email I received last summer* no, I am not. You can get the full skinny over at the Village Voice.

*Here’s what one of their neighbors had to say after I broke the news:

WOW!  Depending on how long this vacate order lasts, I may indeed have to rethink my whole atheist lifestyle.  It’s funny, because I was actually standing out front of my building that night around 11:30 and didn’t see anything other than the 50 or so people hanging out on the “loading dock” area (this is also becoming a problem).  Also, someone in my building has a friend that works at Coco 68 who said that Kelleran was planning on closing 68 to expand the venue space.  If that happens, I would definitely be moving, which sucks, because I love my apartment.  Perhaps these violations will put an end to that plan.  Either way, I’m glad they are being penalized, even if it’s short lived.  Thank you so much for passing this along.  We’ll have to wait and see if their Dub-shit night still happens on Nov. 13th.

Sadly this proved to be temporary. Said neighbor reports:

There is no God.  This just in from the link you sent me:

“Update #2: Says the venue: “We’ve already met with the Buildings Commission and everything, and they couldn’t legally tell us we should be shutdown–we didn’t have to close at all. We were misinformed by the NYPD. They had no right to say that at all.” What was the issue? “Just occupancy. They were doing taskforce everywhere, and they drove by, and there were 100 people outside, and another 400 inside. We just should have cut it off earlier. They oversold the tickets–the promoters way oversold it. But it’s all taken care of now.” They’ll be open at 4 p.m. today.”

I still can’t find where or when they got the permits to convert it to a venue space.  I also can’t find where they have a cabaret license.  I actually also put a complaint into the NY Liquor Board last week, citing the loud music and the congregations of people they have outside.  This place is just so out of control.  I can’t be the only person who has a problem with them.  I just can’t.  Why can’t it just go back to being a bar?
