When I spied the eyes of this chap upon me I inquired of the woman on the stoop as to his identity. She told me his name was “Texas” and he belonged to a woman who works at a shelter on Wythe Avenue. By this I presume she meant BARC.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Goodbye, Manhattan Furrier

A woman named Jennifer writes:

I’m a longtime resident of Greenpoint and I’m making a documentary about Irving Feller, the furrier who owns a shop at 685 Manhattan Avenue. After 60 years of business, he is finally closing shop at the end of the month. We will be there this Saturday, March 19th from 12pm-5pm. If anyone wants to swing by and buy up his native american jewelry & vintage fur coats…or simply give their regards…I know he would appreciate it. Greenpoint is losing one of it’s finest gems…the era has finally ended.

How much do you want to bet, fellow Greenpointers, this space will be occupied by an(other) “eating and drinking” establishment? Emphasis on the latter.

Coming To Greenpoint: The Dead Milkmen

I spied the above fliers at Beacon’s Closet today before endeavoring upon a fruitless search for sundresses. What I found were “clothes for hos” instead. This in and of itself would not have been a problem— but they were big for me to wear! Nonetheless I was pretty jazzed to learn the Dead Milkmen are coming to town. Given the “thing” for all things nowadays 80’s this is probably the coolest to come to north Brooklyn since the Cramps!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Dead In The Water?

March 16, 2011 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Newtown Creek

This item comes courtesy of an anonymous tipster:

On Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1310 hours in the confines of the 94 pct.  Police responded to a male in the water (Newtown Creek) in the rear of 16 Bridgewater Street.  Upon arrival officers discovered a M/H-W/30-40 floating in the water unconscious and unresponsive.  EMS responded and pronounced the aided DOA.  Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing and the ID of the victim is pending.

First it was a horrific hate crime on the Northside and now this. This is proving not to be a good week in north Brooklyn. It goes without saying I will be asking about this (among other things) at the next 94th Precinct Community Council meeting…
