That’s right dear readers, the folks at 648 Humboldt Street and 97 Russell Street have commenced constructing their rather extensive (and bad ass) Halloween decorations for this year! So as to give you a taste of the ghoulish Greenpoint goodness undoubtedly to come I leave you with this slide show…

and some shots of 97 Russell Street’s spooktacular display from last year— which can be seen by clicking here.

East Williamsburg Post-Halloween Wrap Up: Back in the U.S.S.R.?

Okay, before I proceed with this post I want to get two things out of the way:

  1. I am completely aware that Halloween is not just yesterday’s— but last week’s— news.
  2. Some would argue that the location of the following tableau is Bushwick, not East Williamsburg.

Sometimes in the course of human events one need not trifle with taxonomy or the temporal. What I beheld today on Grattan Street is just such an occasion.

tableau

Now I will endeavor to explain to you what you just saw.

1. In the background is a Soviet Russian flag. Actually it is a towel of the Soviet Russian flag.
2. In the foreground is a bespectacled pumpkin with a ninja star lodged in one of its eyes.

3. I’m not too sure if the item to the right is a vase or a rather bourgeois looking bong. In light of the ninja star I am leaning towards the latter.

Soviet stoners in East Williamsburg, you ask? I wouldn’t rule it out. Especially in light of what I found shortly thereafter on McKibben Street.

Yes, I realize Halloween has come and gone— but I could not resist posting this irresistible gaggle of Jack o’ lanterns from Huron Street. So there!

This is without argument my favorite day of the year. For this reason I put together slide show of spooky stuff from the greater Williamspoint area to get everyone in the Halloween spirit. Enjoy!

Have happy (and safe) Halloween everybody!

Gtrain

It doesn’t get much scarier in my book than this jack o’ lantern which commemorates our very own G train. This little guy hails from the Garden Spot’s very own Brouwerij Lane and sports four very festive companions.

Williamsburg Halloween Watch: Blowing Chunks

I have to admit, I’m pretty darned disappointed with the jack o’ lanterns to be found around Brooklyn this year. That is not to suggest I haven’t seen some cute ones. I have. But living in Greenpoint for ten years has predisposed me towards to grotesque (and downright gross). Luckily enough I found a couple of choice specimens today in the 11211. Here they are.

Ordinarily I frown upon illustrated pumpkins, but the sheer ingenuity employed here is truly noteworthy and deserving of a New York Shitty shout-out. Great job!

P.S.: I suppose no post about puking pumpkins would be complete without bringing back this oldie but goody from Halloween past which hailed from our very own Humboldt Street.
