TOMORROW: Community Board 1 Land Use Meeting, A Superfund Update & D.O.T. Forum

Follows are no less than three community forums for your consideration, north Brooklynites!

First up, tomorrow our Community Board’s Land Use Committee will be getting down to business. I have highlighted two items which may— should— be of interest to my fellow Greenpointers:

  • The folks from 259 Banker Street will be on hand to present their plans for this property (HINT/SPOILER: it will NOT be a nightclub. It will be an artists’ studio.). I myself have seen the plans for this and have to confess: they’re very nice!
  • Discussion about the proposed expansion of the Greenpoint Historic District (something about which yours truly feels rather strongly) will resume as well.

Secondly, the EPA will be conducting not one— but TWO— public information sessions about the progress they are making Superfunding creek. Without further ado, here’s the 411:

Lastly, the Department of Transportation will be conducting a public forum regarding proposed changes to West Street as part of the greater Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway Project. Believe it or not, this was a rather contentious issue at the last Transportation Committee meeting I attended (for very salient reasons, I’ll add). “Refreshments” (beer, perhaps?)  will be served!

THIS WEEKEND: Zywiec, Kielbasa, Pierogies & Polka!

This, the latest item for your consideration this upcoming weekend, comes courtesy of Miss Mousey Brown. Among other things she noted that Mr. Sturr is an 18 time Grammy winner (for Polka music, naturally) over the course of 21 years. For this reason this category has since been “retired”. Taking the previous— as well as the variety of Polish goodies in the offing— into account, I suspect this could be a very fun way to while away a Sunday afternoon!

Although I have made mention of this already, I want to remind everyone— be they “pro-concert” series or otherwise— that tomorrow is the much-anticipated town hall meeting regarding the relocation of the Open Space Alliance concert series to 50 Kent Avenue (as seen above). Show up and speak your mind, Greenburgers!
