Greenpoint Photos Du Jour: Gearing Up For “The Bounty”
Tomorrow they will commence filming The Bounty, an “action/comedy” featuring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler right here in Greenpoint. Provided the weather holds. When I told one of the men charged with overseeing the last minute preparations that the weather is going to be iffy, he said:
We’ll work with it.

To close on a more local note Champion Coffee, arguably one of the best purveyors of java in north Greenpoint, will be closed until June 19th.
Coffee lovers needing a Monday (Tuesday and Wednesday) morning commute caffeine fix should plan accordingly. My recommendation: Cafecito Bogota. Not only are the co-proprietors of this business incredibly nice chaps, but the cholados are amazing!

I had a rather unpleasant run in with one of the film crew last night. He was sleeping in his van while I passed with my dogs. I bumped into the van and he comes out and gets really belligerent. “What’s your problem?” he yells. “You got a problem? This is MY block! This is my movie!”
I urge everyone to call the Mayor’s Office for Film and Television and ask how many days in a year do we have to host these film crews! 60, 70, 80 shooting days a year? Mayor’s Office for Film and Television 212 489 6710. Call David Yassky and ask him why Park Slope is free of this onslaught and Greenpoint is not 718 875 5200!
I heard that below India St. they won’t issue permits. I ask what other 5 block area of New York puts up with as much as we do. I called the Mayor’s Office and they refuse to keep statics by block or zip code.
They may not release statistics, but it is tracked. The reason there are areas south of India where they can’t film is because so much was done there over the past year or so. Calyer Street, I was told by someone in the business, for example is off-limits to them for some time. I believe it’s the Community Board that’s behind the restriction, actually… so that might be a good contact point in addition to the Mayor’s office.
Yes, I believe Teresa Toro chairs their newly formed “Filming” committee.
I’m sick to death of this filiming business in north Greenpoint. Where is CB1 again? Too busy rubber stamping I presume. Its not ok to close Manhattan ave for over a week now, and this week its spread to Freeman st. Not too long ago West st. was blocked for ages. After that it was Franklin. This is beyond a joke now.
