eric, the guy who walks our dog at lunchtime, found an abandoned puppy at mcgolrick park this morning around 8am, no collar, no microchip.

This little girl was found (no collar, no microchip) on Richardson & N. Henry this morning. She seems to be a shepherd/mastiff mix about 3 months old. She is not spayed, but very, very sweet.

Today yours truly awakened in a similar state as yesterday: puffy eyes and sniffling. Yes, gentle readers, spring has arrived in Greenpoint— or fall never left. Take your pick. Mother Nature is not only a bitch, but given recent trends (READ: going from 74 degrees yesterday to 50-something today and purportedly back to 70’s again tomorrow with a chance thunderstorms) I suspect she might be a mite bit manic depressive as well. But I digress.
Given the options available to me, these being:
- staying indoors and feeling crappy or
- going outdoors and feeling crappy
I elected to do the latter— I am very glad I did! Nothing shakes off a case of the “grumpies” like knocking around one’s own neighborhood and finding ad hoc art exhibitions such as this one. While perhaps not to everyone’s taste these works do appear to be affordable…
or not. In any case the creator of these works is a seriously nice fellow. So much so I feel compelled to warn my fellow Greenpointers: if you demonstrate too much interest you may very well find yourself walking home with one. For free! That’s what happened to me back in 2008.

A great deal of the content of this site of late has been dedicated to the reconstruction of Nassau Avenue. This is because is because a number of people are confused and/or concerned about it (I have literally had people stop me on the street and ask me what is going on. No kidding.) and/or are very unhappy. Therefore I feel compelled to share the latest information as sent from the DDC’s Office of Community Outreach & Notification Office today, the Ides of March (via an anonymous tipster).
I have taken the liberty of highlighting what I find to be the most interesting passage of this tome:

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Presenting The Greenpoint Neighborhood Coalition
A number of people have asked me about the status of the proposed 200 bed assessment center slated to grace 400 McGuinness Boulevard. Aside from noticing that it appears to be nearing completion I have drawn a blank. Until this morning which is when I received the item at left via an anonymous tipster.
As you can see a lawsuit is in the works and a meeting of the newly christened Greenpoint Neighborhood Coalition will come to pass at McGuinness Power Brake Service next Monday, March 19th, at 6:30 p.m.. Those of you who harbor concerns about this facility or simply want to learn more should make it a point to attend!

From The Community Board 1 Combined & Public Hearing: Newtown Creek CAG

This item was brought forth by our board’s Environmental Chair (and all-around nice lady), Ryan Kuonen. What is the Newtown Creek “CAG”, you ask? Very simple: as it name indicates it is a panel consisting of members of the greater Newtown Creek community whose purpose is to oversee the clean-up of this waterway and provide a forum to discuss any pertinent environmental concerns.
Perhaps this may not strike some of you as being terribly exciting, but I assure you it is very much needed. And Newtown Creek CAG needs you! Simply put, they want as diverse a panel as possible and to this end are seeking new members. You can learn more about “CAG” and how you can get involved by persuing their “about” page.
Otherwise (and to close on a related note): follows is footage of our Community Board Chair’s opening remarks from said convocation which, among other things, condemns the city’s consideration of a site in Greenpoint (Lombardy Street at Varick Avenue to be specific) for the placement of a “Green Energy Facility” (READ: an incinerator).
NOTE: What Mr. Olechowski fails to mention initially— but does mention in his “letter”— is a second proposed site is just across the creek south of the Kosciuszko Bridge. While not in Greenpoint per se, its impact will undoubtedly be felt here. Something to consider, folks!
UPDATE, 6:20 p.m.: A commenter has raised a very salient question. This being: Exactly how does one become a CAGer? In this respect this web site appears to be vague. However, I have been advised that any/all interested parties should show up at their next meeting. This has yet to be announced. Thus, joining Newtown Creek CAG’s mailing list is the way to go. This you can be done by going to their web page, entering your email address in the field highlighted below and hitting “follow”.
