American Playground Update: Call Me Cassandra
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Plagiarism
Most of you remember this post. I wrote it December 13th about the American Playground being open despite conditions the Department of Buildings deemed to be imminently perilous to human life. Well, I always know when I am on a good “scoop” when a reporter comes calling. CASE IN POINT: an email I received yesterday.
Will call tomorrow. American Playground. What’s the building that’s causing its closure?…
Methinks I made that pretty clear in my post. Nonetheless, I will do so again:
Here is the “Partial Vacate Order”:
And here is the complaint regarding the adjacent property:
If falling debris is the problem, why isn’t the American Playground being cordoned off properly by the Parks Department? Perhaps our Parks person (and Open Space Advocate), Stephanie Thayer, would care to step up to the plate? This is inexcusable.

LAST GASP: Babies Wanted
Ann Kansfield, the co-pastor of the Greenpoint Reformed Church, writes (in regards to my inquiry as to how Ann K 2.0 is doing):
Ak 2.0 is coming along, although I wish she’d show up in time to play Jesus in the Christmas pageant on Sunday. Maybe you could post a request saying that we are casting a baby Jesus. Applicant must be a baby. Nothing else required except showing up on Sunday at 10:30. The pageant runs from 11:00 am- noon. It’s gonna be hilarious, and very Greenpoint. Potential Jesuses (or their agents) can email me. If only our kid would have arrived sooner, she coulda been a star…
Any and all Greenpoint— or Williamsburg— babes can contact Ann via email at: kansfield (at) yahoo (dot) com. STAT.

P.S.: Kids arrive when they want to. Just ask Pa Heather. I arrived exactly seven days after his desired birth date (for tax purposes). And despite being born two weeks early I have been a week late and a dollar short ever since!

If this is any indication I’d hazard to guess that not only Santa, but his little helpers and Santacon have already visited this house.
Damn.

Crosstown Local Fashion Watch: Pretty In Pink
Today yours truly went for a photo walk with a good friend of mine: algul siento. Although it was a most enjoyable jaunt it was cold. Bitter cold. However, when we hopped on the G train at Broadway this woman’s fabulous fettle (and attitude to match) warmed us up considerably. After I took the above photograph this most stylish lass said:
Please don’t make me look fat… it’s all skirt!
Inasmuch as I can ascertain— and not that it really matters, mind you— it was.

Jay Lombard writes:
Any idea what is happening at 2376 mcguinness? Formerly gothic cabinet. Looks like a food market – I spotted what appeared to be coolers for beverages and shelving units being set up as I drove past.
Well, today I walked by and…
this does appear to be the case! Anyone have the 411 (or opening date) for this establishment? If so, please share via comments or email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.
Thanks!
