From The New York Shitty Inbox: Freeman Street Plea
Jay (who sent the above item) writes:
Check out this sign from 158 Freeman St. How do they know it was human pee and not some other animal? Did someone witness jerkhole peeing on people’s homes? And what is a jerkhole?
Excellent questions all…

LAST GASP: Gratitude

Hello, Miss Heather!
I am a volunteer for the Pets for Life NYC hotline, a hotline staffed entirely by volunteers to help people solve problems/ keep their pets from ending up at Animal Control. Here is their link: http://www.humanesociety.org/animal_community/shelters/pets_for_life_nyc.html {Also, I am a big fan of your blog!}
I got a call on my shift Tuesday night from a woman in Brooklyn who is living in the New Horizons Shelter on Amboy Street with her 3 kids because her building was deemed uninhabitable. Their sweet 3 year old family dog, Missy, was taken to Brooklyn Animal Care and Control because dogs are not permitted at that shelter.
BAC&C has held Missy for over a month, but she is on the euthanasia list for Sunday unless she finds a foster home or donations for boarding. The owner and children are beside themselves with worry: they have no family who can take Missy. They have 1-2 months until they get an apartment to bring Missy home.
Missy is spayed, has all her shots, gets along with other dogs and kids. Is there anyone out there who could foster her? There is some money to contribute to food and boarding…
Today as I was walking down West Street I found something for which I am very thankful. Chez Shitty (still) lacks heat (just ask my nipples— they’ve been in a heighten state of alert for days) but I do not call a wooden pallet and a moving blanket my home. I have hot water and a roof over my head. As Meatloaf would say:
Two out of three ain’t bad.

It is a well known fact that Larry (as seen at left) is without argument Greenpoint’s most famous the bodega cat. He likes to get around. While this usually entails keeping a particularly vigilant eye (or would that be paw?) over the canines which patronize his place of work and play (that being A. J. Farms) he has a horde of furry friends. In fact, if you look carefully on the left hand side of the counter at this establishment you will see a photo of him hanging out with a few of his homies. But did you know a particularly fetching feline hereabouts has become his regular breakfast date? I didn’t. It was put to me this way:
He comes in every morning, eats some of her food and sits with her. They cannot “do” anything*… but they like each other!
