Urban Fur: Green Pup In Greenpoint

Your eyes are not deceiving you.

This pup (which I spied on Eagle Street and whose name is “Smudgy”) is in fact, chartreuse in hue.

Obviously I had to get to the bottom of this. Me:

I thought I was seeing things. Your dog really is green!

Smudgy’s Person:

Yeah, we dyed him for Halloween. We wanted to dress him up as Yoda but he came out looking toxic.

Me: So he was more like a Newtown Creek dog!
S.P.: Exactly!

This item comes from my friend Rob over at Dog Habitat/Unleash Brooklyn. He writes:

Hi Heather,

We wanted to bring Aponte’s case to your attention. He is a sweet dog who has spent over 4 years in shelters. (more than half his life). Recently he is under foster care with our friend Howard, who is a terrific foster dad. Unfortunately, from years of inactivity and malnutrition Aponte’s knees need major surgery, each knee will cost $3900. On Tuesday he will go under surgery for the first knee. Howard has managed to raise half the money to pay for the first knee… Aponte is the kind of dog friendly to all humans and dogs and who manages to steal hearts quickly. His story is amazing, and if you could please post this on your site we think we can help Howard reach the goal to pay for the first knee.
