Urban Fur: India Street R.I.P.
Many of my fellow Greenpointers know this man and his pup: they are residents of India Street and can often be found hanging out on the corner at Manhattan Avenue. Today as I was walking to the East River Ferry I noticed the above memorial. Noting that this canine’s “person”, a rather intimidating looking fellow I will add, was sitting nearby I decided to ask him if his companion (which is sort of an institution of sorts) had died. He told me it happened two days ago, appears to have been a heart attack, but his pup had lived a long healthy life so he had no regrets. I replied:
It’s always hard to lose a pet. But we should be happy for the time we have with them. They are our friends.
He agreed and warned me to be on the lookout for pirates.*

*During my ride from India Street to Shaeffer Landing I did not spy a single one.
This Sunday: Rzeszów 2011 Folk Festival Fundraiser
Last month (in a post featuring two very lovely young ladies) I had made mention that Greenpoint’s very own Polish American Folk Dance Company was raising money to compete at Rzeszów Festival, an international dance competition in Poland. Well, that time is drawing near and you have an opportunity to see them strut their stuff (and lend them a hand) this upcoming Sunday, May 19, at The Warsaw! The festivities start at 3:00 p.m. and tickets (which are $10.00 for children/students and $15.00 for adults respectively) can be purchased at the door or at The Forum Agency which is located at 616 Manhattan Avenue. Check it out!

New York Shitty Mini Slide Show du Jour: Now With Weekend Hours!
Although I broke the good news about Far Better Towing’s pinball parlor almost two years ago, this morning I noted a number of new amenities (among other things) which I believe merit mention. Feeling deliciously lazy I am opting to sharing them via slide show versus writing about them. Enjoy!
Am I the only person who wants to check this place out on a Saturday night?
