Greenpoint Photo Du Jour: Wintertime Sun
This scene hails from Milton Street and is dedicated to Christine Holowacz, a stalwart Greenpoint advocate and co-founder of GWAPP. She lost her husband to cancer the day this image was taken.

New York Shitty Day Ender: Post Mardi Gras Edition
Although I am certain today’s rain and sleet have since rendered this very special chap (which hails from Oak Street) unrecognizable, here he is for posterity. New York Shitty analysis: Love it!

TOMORROW: 50% Off Clothing & Shoes
Speaking as someone who prefers used over new (my lifestyle makes second-hand desirable— what’s more it’s much easier on the wallet!) I feel compelled to pass along this item. Our local Salvation Army is extending their regular “Family Day” to Wednesday and Thursday this week. This is an excellent chance to pick up some apparel on the cheap to wear “as is” or retool into something neat. Check it out!

Garden Spot Belles Lettres: A Piece of Purple Prose
There aren’t many “early adopters” left in Garden Spot anymore. MOst have been priced out. Thankfully Philip (AKA: the best dressed man in Greenpoint as seen at left) is still here. I find his presence is comforting in the ever-changing world that is 11222. I am of the distinct impression this Philip is an old soul. I suppose it takes one to know one. Most importantly: he’s a really nice guy.
Last weekend he swung by the junk shop. He had a short story for me. It is entitled “Greenpoint Bar” and you can read it by clicking here. CAVEAT: this tome is rather explicit so if you are offended by material of a sexual nature do not click the previous link.
As for the rest of you: enjoy!

Spotted On McGuinness Boulevard: Missing Ghostbike
Many of you are no doubt familiar with the senseless death of Solange Raulson. For those of you who are not, she was struck and killed by a truck at the intersection of Nassau Avenue and McGuinness Boulevard December 13, 2009. Many questions have arisen about how this tragic event came to pass and how it is being handled by the N.Y.P.D. Most remain unanswered. But two things can be asserted with 100% certainty: she died too young and is missed by many.
ghostbikes.org erected a memorial at this intersection (which you see at left) to serve as a reminder of Ms. Raulston’s life— and death. Now jump forward to today: as I was running errands I made an interesting discovery.
This item has gone MIA. I find this curious as the other memorials at this intersection were untouched. Does anyone have the 411 regarding what happened here? If so, please share via comments or contact me email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.
Thanks!

Greenpoint Photo Du Jour: Black & White
Filed under: 11222, Advanced Life Forms, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
Okay, I’ll admit these above imagery does not do this vehicle justice (try taking photos from a moving bus— it is not as easy as you may think). The OCD manifest here is compelling nonetheless. Note they Holstein print seat covers, fuzzy dice, assortment of beanie babies (black and white all) and the maneki neko. NICE.
