From The New York Shitty Inbox: Curtain Call For Club Exit?
N (who sent the above image) writes:
Dear miss heather,
I live next door to club exit, last week there was a huge fight that left at least one bleeding in the middle of greenpoint ave. Today I noticed this sign on the doors as I was walking home. They finally lost their liquor license?
I have detected a lot of buzz about this online. I have been meaning to do some poking around to learn what happened but simply have not had time. Although I certainly would not rule out N’s liquor license theory (this club has long been a public nuisance and the location of many a violent altercation) fact of the matter is I honestly do not know. If anyone out there is “in the know”, please share via comments.* Inquiring minds want to know!

UPDATE, January 9, 2010: B writes;
Miss Heather,
I would not pop the champagne corks regarding “Club Exit Bites The Dust†because they are applying for a liquor license renewal (Alteration) at Community Board 1 on January 12 6:30 p.m. They are listed at number 13 on the Liquor License Renewals List. See CB1 Agenda attachment…
Anyone wishing to comment for or against this renewal should attend the meeting and arrive early—at least by 6 p.m.—to sign up and speak your mind. I would also suggest you call or email CB1 with your opinions or questions.
After all, it is your Community Board.
UPDATE, January 9, 6:19 p.m.: I have heard via the Greenpoint grapevine that Club Exit was shut down for drug activity. They are going to remodel and reopen (hence the license hearing) as a “new club”. I write “new” because this establishment will be under the same ownership.

Grammatical error aside, I really like the way this person thinks. The arrow pointing to the offender’s residence is an inspired touch.

MTA Photo Du Jour: B43 Arithmetic
You know the budget cuts at MTA are beginning to hurt when you see something like this (which hails from Manhattan Avenue and Dupont Street). Then again, I suppose a Sharpie marker and address labels filched from the United States Postal Service are more cost effective than printing out a new schedule.

We have a stray cat who has meandered her way into our(5 dudes in a loft) hearts…… She appeared over the summer looking for our inside cat-acknowledging us only with a vicious hiss and running away. A little love and affection later, she now lets us pick her up, purrs on our laps, makes us go “Aaaaawwwww”……
We want to bring her in, but need to get her fixed, get her shots, etc. Wondering if you have a place in the GP area where we could bring her to get that done at a reasonable price? The ASPCA van isn’t coming around this area too soon. Much appreciated and i love the blog-your the best!
If there’s one thing yours truly has a soft spot for it is men who like cats— and who couldn’t help but love this adorable lass? Here are a few thoughts off the top of my head:
- I recall the Toby Project occasionally provides affordable spay and neuter services in Brooklyn. I have checked their calendar and the next time they will be remotely near Greenpoint is January 27. On this day they will be in Bedford Stuyvesant.
- Speaking for myself, my husband and I go to Northside Veterinary Clinic. I’ll be upfront: people tend to either really like Drs. Leiman and Eisner or can’t stand them. We have had positive experiences with them. I would also like to add that I recently accompanied a friend of mine who had rescued a kitten there for a “check up”. She was very happy and Dr. Eisner, knowing that “Peanut” was a rescue, gave her a 20% discount off the cost of all the tests, etc. I am certain it was still not very cheap, but the cost split five ways might be do-able for youse guys.
On that note, I am going to solicit thoughts/advice from my readers. If you have any advice for Jim please leave them in the comments. Thanks!
Congratulations Jim! Gasolina is a cutie!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: More Ado About Belvedere
Remember Anonymous, who was interested in purchasing a condo at Belvedere at XXVII? Well, he has done his homework and the prognosis looks good. For the most part. He writes:
Hope you’re enjoying a good new year.
I did my hw with the dob and while a belvedere property had construction workers urinating out the 3rd floor window (emphasis mine — Ed. Note), I didn’t see structural issues.
Pencil lofts have halted construction.
I’d break even with this purchase within two years vs renting.
I’ve been advised that locals may be anti cookie cutter condos due to the detractmemt of a neighborhood feel. I know newyorkshitty.com is unbiased, so would you truly advise not to pull the trigger on this?
#1. Anonymous you are too kind: I am by my own admission biased against these properties.
#2. Especially when they are built by construction “professionals” who piss from third story windows. That’s just plain nasty!
Look at it this way: if the gentlemen working on this site have been observed urinating al fresco, it begs the question (in my mind, anyway) as to what they have been doing indoors— if you know what I mean.* The previous caveat having been written, I am happy you did your homework (even if I disagree with your decision) and it might be a good idea for you to have an inspector give the property a once-over before signing anything. Better safe than sorry.
Good luck— and welcome to the neighborhood!

*I had to bust your chops over that one, Anonymous. That is simply too gross.
THIS WEEK: Coming Down!
All good things must come to an end. For this reason I wanted to remind everyone that this upcoming Thursday, January 7, 2010 will be the closing date for my show of photography, Brookland, at t.b.d. Quite frankly I am a little “festivitied out” after the holidays but will be there from 7:30 – 8:30p.m. to meet and greet folks, sign pieces for those who have purchased them and hopefully sell a few more! Those of you who have the time and the inclination to brave this frigid weather please swing by and say “hi”. I’d love to meet you!
My Closing Reception
January 7, 2010; 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
