New York Shitty Day Ender: Greenpoint Avenue
As I was taking photos of the above fabulously dressed lass I heard a man’s voice from an adjacently parked van. It said:
Hey, why don’t you take a picture of us?
I gladly obliged.
The gentleman to the right is named Apollo. (It said so on his uniform.) When I inquired as to the name of his companion, his answer was as follows:
Drunk.
So there have you!
What’s Up At 134 Kingsland Avenue?

Yesterday I happened to be strolling down Kingsland Avenue and, lo, I noticed signs of activity at Boneshaker’s former space! Curious I asked the chap inside what gives. His introduced himself (name is Stas) and he was more than happy to give me the 411; he will be opening an eating and drinking establishment called “One Stop Beer Shop”. As the name indicates, beer will be served on the premises (along with a limited menu along the lines of soup, salads and sandwiches) and you will be able to get growlers to go!

(Or: Special Delivery)
As some of you have probably noticed earlier today I posted footage of a man who decided to sit in the middle of the street and block traffic. Well, shortly thereafter I noticed a couple of NYPD patrol cars canvassing the area. I am pleased to announce that as of 7:00 p.m. they got their man! Sort of.
I do not post this footage with the intent of criticizing the 94th Precinct. They have a job to do— and regrettably handling individuals who are clearly mentally ill has become one of their responsibilities. Rather, I have to wonder about the effectiveness of a rehabilitation facility— one which is funded in part by our tax dollars, I’ll add— when someone under their care requires a police motorcade to get back home. Clearly whatever this facility is doing is not working— and sadly it is probably only a matter of time before this man gets hurt.

If you look carefully when this gent gets up you will notice he has had an, um, accident. This gives a whole new meaning to “doing it in the road”. Just another Monday afternoon in the Garden Spot, folks…
UPDATE, 7:40 p.m.: I have just gotten the 411 on what led up to this event from a pair of eyewitnesses on the scene. Apparently this chap was in a physical altercation with anther individual. He was struck and managed to spill his beverage. Upon hitting (sitting on) the street he shouted:
You spilled my liquor!
New York Shitty Slide Show du Jour, Part II: Business As Usual
As promised follows are some highlights from my sojourn around north ‘Point this afternoon. Aside from the two above-depicted houses (which can be found on Freeman Street between Manhattan Avenue and McGuinness Boulevard and are lacking electricity) the damage was minimal. Rather, it would appear that the Garden Spot has (inasmuch as is possible) regained its sense of normalcy. As you will see we are enjoying our (scant) public spaces, the El Blablazo tree has survived; some hapless soul was (is?) awaiting access to the Box House Hotel and I even met a dog named “Kitty”. While not depicted, Jerzy (AKA: the chap who lives in a truck on Franklin Street), is safe and sound— if quite busy! I suspect he feels the same way we all do: it’s nice to have our neighborhood— replete in all its glorious eccentricity— back. On that note and without further ado, enjoy!

Rescued From McCarren Park: Peapod

The Vagina Tree may no longer be with us, but this little fellow (and I have been assured Peapod is a he!)— a baby squirrel who has been separated from his home— stands a fighting chance thanks to a very observant Miss Mousey Brown!
UPDATE, August 30, 2011: I have word that Peapod has been safety returned to his family! Miss Mousey Brown writes:
He’s good. When I went by his nest yesterday, his mom hopped right to it when he gave out an “I’m hungry” squeak. The warm sunny day was good. The nest is probably dry again. All is well.
