LAST GASP: Gratitude

Hello, Miss Heather!

I am a volunteer for the Pets for Life NYC hotline, a hotline staffed entirely by volunteers to help people solve problems/ keep their pets from ending up at Animal Control.  Here is their link: http://www.humanesociety.org/animal_community/shelters/pets_for_life_nyc.html {Also, I am a big fan of your blog!}

I got a call on my shift Tuesday night from a woman in Brooklyn who is living in the New Horizons Shelter on Amboy Street with her 3 kids because her building was deemed uninhabitable.  Their sweet 3 year old family dog, Missy, was taken to Brooklyn Animal Care and Control because dogs are not permitted at that shelter.

BAC&C has held Missy for over a month, but she is on the euthanasia list for Sunday unless she finds a foster home or donations for boarding.  The owner and children are beside themselves with worry: they have no family who can take Missy.  They have 1-2 months until they get an apartment to bring Missy home.

Missy is spayed, has all her shots, gets along with other dogs and kids. Is there anyone out there who could foster her? There is some money to contribute to food and boarding…

Today as I was walking down West Street I found something for which I am very thankful. Chez Shitty (still) lacks heat (just ask my nipples— they’ve been in a heighten state of alert for days) but I do not call a wooden pallet and a moving blanket my home. I have hot water and a roof over my head. As Meatloaf would say:

Two out of three ain’t bad.

You can help Missy (and get the full rundown about her and her’s situation) by clicking here.

Props go out to Subway Art Blog for spotting this gem. He writes:

What could possibly drive two aspiring actresses to start interviewing strangers in the subway? Sheer curiosity.

Why Are You on My Train? is a video blog by Alli Goldberg and Jen Jamula. Both of them moved to New York to pursue their acting careers after graduating from Yale’s theater department, but found themselves doing something they never expected. “Our blog was partly born out of riding the subway to and from auditions and a) wondering who the people were around us and b) wanting to engage,” explained Jen…

You can read the rest over at Subway Art Blog. Check it out!

In the meantime here’s a choice morsel:

I can only hope I meet these ladies and tell them my tales. Provided of course the G train is actually running.

LAST GASP: Best Rim Job Ever

I will not lie to you, dear readers: I have had a rotten day. In fact, I have had a pretty rotten week. Getting “buzzed” while frantically trying to remove a surge protector and various extension cables as rain water was cascading upon them is not the way I like to start my morning. But after such an inauspicious start the day (or so I tell myself) can only get better. And it did! Which brings me to this.

Tony, a fellow Greenpointer and friend, writes:

I couldn’t figure out who to send this to…

You sent this to the right person, Tony. I really needed this bit of sophomoric humor/levity today. I can only hope to toss Al a rim shot (or two) of business by posting this! I mean, who wouldn’t want a rim job from a guy named Al in Mineola?

P.S.: I wonder if he services Queens as well? I can only hope so.
