Spotted In McCarren Park: Call-A-Head

As I mentioned in this post we, the people of north Brooklyn, have been promised by the peeps of OSA (Open Space Alliance North Brooklyn) a handful of port-o-johns to help augment the rather inadequate— and in some cases downright disgusting— facilities which currently grace our public parks. While not what I consider to be an ideal solution (they should be repairing and upgrading existing facilities; and breaking ground for new ones) today I had a glimmer (or would that be a whiff) of hope. At the corner of North 12 and Berry Street to be precise.

Not one, not two, but three port-o-potties! But wait— there’s a catch.

All save one are locked! Perhaps to be dispatched to elsewhere? I can only hope so. In any case I decided to check out the one that was open to the public.

If it is any consolation, dear readers, this smelled worse than it looks.

Methinks another inspection is in order. But why cry over spilled vomit?

Shortly thereafter I discovered that Bushwick Inlet Park has received its promised privy! Two down, two to go…

Greenpoint Degentrification Watch: Meet “Catfish”

This item comes courtesy of someone we’ll call “W”. He writes:

Do you by any chance know of the legendary Catfish…? He looks like a catfish and always growling or drinks vodka around the park. One night a hipster bumped him and he smashed his guitar then proceeded to scream like a werewolf. He’s become my hero ever since…

he’s the one in the wool cap in the pic.

I would like to take a moment to give a big New York Shitty salute to our man Catfish for keeping Garden Spot real— one guitar at a time! Pete Townsend would be proud.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: ADOPTED!

Remember Thelma and Louise (as seen at left)? Well, they have a home now! Laura (who it should be noted took in a rain-soaked little lady we named McGuinness— after the boulevard she sought refuge from) writes:

Hi Heather!

I thought you’d like to know that Mike & I adopted Thelma & Louise. I saw their photo on your blog. They are adorable. When my mom was in the hospital for almost a year, my sister & I used to travel back and forth together in her car. We had some adventures in her car and started calling ourselves Thelma & Louise. Cute cats, sentimental names… you know the rest.

Here’s a clip of Thelma, Louise and McGuinness together.

Another happy ending— but there many adoptable cuties still awaiting homes in north Brooklyn.

Here are a bevy of calicos and a couple of tabbies courtesy of Lisacat.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Anyone Want A Guitar?

McGol Rick writes:

there’s a free guitar on morgan ave at nassau ave. it appears to have been dressed up and bloodied or something. post it if the heat kept you from your photojournalistic ventures.

Duly posted— and thanks for the contribution! As it would happen I have been spending a great deal of time at home enjoying the comfort of air conditioning and cleaning the kitchen. The latter has been a rather nasty affair— but I suspect it was/is mere child’s play compared to what this objet d’ art has experienced!
