This most unexpected (and welcome) item comes courtesy of the peeps behind the defunct (and sorely missed) East Coast Aliens. They write:
East Coast Aliens are pleased to announce the grand opening of Shangri-La Studio. After the shock and sadness of having to shut down ECA studios last year we are delighted to pass the torch on to a new and better venue in Greenpoint. Shangri-La shares the same vision of providing professional artistic services and a center for art and culture. Shangri-La is bigger, stronger and faster but don’t take our word for it and come find out for yourself during the opening party next Saturday (see invite below). Promotional rates for the studios will be extended to film makers and photographers who attend the party. If you can’t make it next Saturday stop by during May to visit the studio and take advantage of the promotional opening rates. UPDATE, August 30, 2010: It has come to my attention that this piece has been linked to by AOL. This is a New York Shitty first! In this tome (which you can read here) the author— for reasons only known to him— saw fit to get a quote from Gersh Kuntzman of the Brooklyn Paper. Why, I do not know. Mr. Kuntzman is a lot of things, but an expert on north Brooklyn is not one of them. What’s more he has a nasty habit of lifting content from blogs— mine among them. In some circles this is considered plagiarism. Suffice it to say I am not a fan of Mr. Kuntzman.
With the previous disclosure I present to you what he had to say about the above item (and vagina trees in general):
I think I speak for all Brooklynites who love vaginas — and I’m speaking for a lot of people, so I understand the gravitas — when I say that the only place to truly enjoy a vulva of any kind is in McCarren Park.
Given that this gent has seen fit to videotape himself molesting a multimillion dollar apartment and that I was in McCarren Park just yesterday this, well, makes me more than a little nervous. Methinks I’ll be patronizing Gantry State Park in Queens moving forward. I would advise you, dear readers, to follow suit: the sticky stuff on our foliage might not be sap!

New York Shitty Slide Show & Videos Du Jour: Visitor’s Center Grand Opening

It was (and is) a beautiful day in the Garden Spot of the Universe. The sun is shining and it is a very comfortable 68 degrees. In other words, the conditions were ideal for Greenpoint’s event of the year: the opening of the Visitor’s Center for our fair Waste Treatment Plant. I awoke bright and early to prepare myself for this most auspicious occasion. My shit shirt was laundered, my camera and flip cam were fully charged. I was ready. Before I proceed to the body of this post (a slide show and ample video footage!) I’d like to tender a few thoughts:
- I for one was pleased that a number of neighborhood children were present to witness this moment in Garden Spot History.
- I applaud the DEP for providing a number of activities and souvenirs for the kids. The “Drip Patrol” badges and Commemorative Silly Putty were nothing short of inspired (And yes, I grabbed one of each for myself. I am a child at heart!).
- All the north Brooklyn notables were there: Joe Lentol, Steve Levin, Marty Markowitz and Diana Reyna. The latter most I had never met in person. She’s a really nice lady and had never seen the Nature Walk before. She was impressed. What’s more, she was not aware that the digester eggs (as the eggheads call them) are popularly known hereabouts as the “Shit Tits”. She found this tremendously entertaining. I like Diana.
- I made it known to Ms. Reyna that the digester egg lighting ceremony had cake and voiced my disappointment that this ceremony did not have cake. Now that I think about it, a number of people were rather despondent over the lack of confections.
- When do we get a gift shop? I want Shit Tit snow globes and I want them NOW!
- I was also disappointed that Vito Acconci, the artist who designed the fountain which graces our new Visitor’s Center, was unable to attend.
- I met one of the peeps from Polshek Partners (the blue chip brains behind the “boobs”). I brought it to his attention that the Shit Tits (as we call them) have become a point of civic pride in my community and then showed him my shirt shirt. I am pleased to report he liked it! In fact, he wanted to know how to order one. As you can imagine, I provided this chap all the information needed to make this happen!
