From The New York Shitty Inbox: Two Guys Auto

D writes:  My wife and I were recently totally screwed by Two Guys Auto on McGuinness.  They did about $1200 of unauthorized work, charged us for authorized work they didn’t do, and did some things dangerously bad, not to mention getting belittled when confronting them about it.

Anyway, looking on-line (unfortunately after the fact), I notice a BBB rating of F and a lot of similar stories on Yelp/Citysearch (next to suspiciously similar praises but that’s another story).

I’m assuming with the number of folks around the hood reading your blog, there may be people with similar experiences.  I’m hoping to connect with other folks who’ve had problems to establish a documented pattern of fraud here, so that we can have the DMV investigate this as opposed to individual he said/she said type cases…

Thanks a bunch and hopefully my next tip/email will be on something fun like kittens!

I’ve looked at the Yelp and Citysearch reviews for Two Guys Auto. The Citysearch reviews are by and large positive; the Yelp reviews, on the other hand, are either very positive or negative. Here are some examples to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

I’ll be forthright: one of the reasons I live in New York City is I do not have to own an car. As tatty as our rapid transit system seems (and is) I’d rather wait for a bus or even the G train (when it is running, that is) than deal with the manifold annoyances that come with automobile ownership. But that’s my position; I have the presence of mind to know that some people have elected not to make this decision or their place/line of work does not permit this “luxury”. Therefore I tender D’s inquiry to you, dear readers:

  1. Have you had problems/issues with Two Guys Auto?
  2. Do you have a recommendation for a reliable mechanic in north Brooklyn/Long Island City for Woody?

If so, please shoot D an email at: twoguysproblem (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thanks!

When I spied this on McGuinness Boulevard it gave me pause. Could this be the beginning of the greening of McGuinness Boulevard? If the wares inside are indication, I’d say it is a distinct possibility. I didn’t have time to check this place out (was headed to lunch). I will do so when the time affords itself. In addition, my green thumb (if one can call it that) is limited solely to jade plants. I see no reason to inflict my incompetence on innocent plant life. Those of you who are more horticulturally adept, however, might want to give this new establishment a whirl. It looks really neat!

When I ran a Google search for 316 McGuinness this came up. Most intriguing.

Spotted On North 12 Street: Witnesses Wanted

When I see fliers such as this my heart sinks. Granted, there are a fair number of negligent bicyclists to be found on our streets. I complain about them. Often. However, they are child’s play compared to the influx of cabs and livery drivers who now negotiate north Brooklyn’s streets. I have seen their driving personally on multiple occasions. It is terrifying. If you or anyone you know witnessed the above-described accident please call Mike. Fault-finding and accusations aside, all parties involved need to know what happened.

On a related note, I was (fairly) recently contacted by a gentlemen who is interested in speaking to anyone who might have witnessed Solange Raulston’s untimely death on McGuinness Boulevard last year. His name is Dave and you can reach him at:

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Another Hit & Run?

It would appear that in the wee hours of Sunday morning a Greenpointer was the victim of a hit and run on Calyer Street between Newel and McGuinness Boulevard. The good news is the victim is alive, if in critical condition. The bad news is this is yet another example of how out of control speeding is around McGuinness Boulevard. You can read the whole sad story by clicking here.

My wishes go out to Mr. Chamberlain and his loved ones. May he make a complete recovery and the party responsible for this reprehensible act be brought to justice.

Miss Heather

P.S.: Special thanks goes out to Caryn Rose for bringing this to my attention.

UPDATE, 6:36 p.m.: Here is an email I have received regarding this incident. Anonymous writes:

My sister witnessed that hit and run. Or rather, her cab driver saw it all. She was heading back to NYC and said that it was a white car and the guy was pretty bad. They got out of the car and she said he was unconscious and bleeding from the head but that he was still breathing. They called 911 and flagged down a passing cop car… She said the cops were rather dismissive and said that the victim was drunk- they could smell it. She said “how do you know that? I  had wine tonight!”…. I guess that if the victim is drunk that means he deserves to be mowed down!!… She said they didn’t seem interested in taking down names or statements either…. There is an outdoor surveillance camera outside the fabric store next to Dough de Damas. I wonder if the cops even checked that out???
– I am furious at the attitude of the cops.!!!
